The 6-foot-7 forward <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/04\/01\/zakai-zeigler-jahmai-mashack\/\" target=\"_self\">has a top-four<\/a> of Oklahoma, Florida State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. He has officially visited all four finalists.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Rivals national analyst\/scout Jamie Shaw logged a prediction in the Sooners&#8217; direction for Mayfield. Shaw has assigned his projection a 60 percent confidence rating. Shaw notes that Oklahoma was his <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/news\/ranking-the-contenders-for-rivals150-f-gage-mayfield-as-a-decision-nears\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most recent official visit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After that trip, he canceled his plans to travel to Michigan and revealed a commitment date. This is a good sign for the Sooners, who Shaw believes have momentum ahead of Mayfield\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"Hhmu2e wDYxhc NFQFxe viOShc LKPcQc\" data-md=\"16\" data-hveid=\"CDwQAA\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjR-piHqeCPAxUtEVkFHeMxE_wQhygoAHoECDwQAA\">\n<div class=\"Ftghae iirjIb DaSCDf\">\n<p>As senior, Mayfield\u2019s Hale County High School (Moundville, Ala.) <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.maxpreps.com\/al\/moundville\/hale-county-wildcats\/basketball\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">went 18-7 overall<\/a> (h\/t MaxPreps). During the latest AAU season, he played well for the 17U team of the Alabama-based Pro One in the Under Armour Association (UAA) league. He averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.0 steals per game for Pro One. For his performances, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.thecircuithoops.com\/news_article\/show\/1344532\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the scouting experts<\/a> at The Circuit\u00a0named Mayfield their UAA Breakout MVP and to the All-UAA Second Team.<\/p>\n<h3>What The Experts Are Saying<\/h3>\n<p>National experts are raving about the physical components of Mayfield\u2019s game.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Gage Mayfield has glaring physical tools &#8211; strength, length, athleticism, early inside-out skill &#8211; and a long runway to keep putting it all together. The scout notes that Mayfield has great length with his height and 7-foot-1 wingspan. He\u2019s also an explosive and versatile athlete, his physical tools also allowing to to excel at protecting the rim.<\/p>\n<p data-dtype=\"d3ifr\" data-local-attribute=\"d3bn\" data-attrid=\"title\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjR-piHqeCPAxUtEVkFHeMxE_wQ3B0oAHoECDwQAQ\">The 17-year-old hasn&#8217;t been significantly challenged in high school, so he\u2019ll need to have tremendous work ethic and enhance his all-around game to prepare himself for the collegiate level. One area to monitor is his decision-making, as Mayfield is a bit turnover prone, Finkelstein adds. However, he does have a credible long-distance shot.<\/p>\n<h3 data-dtype=\"d3ifr\" data-local-attribute=\"d3bn\" data-attrid=\"title\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjR-piHqeCPAxUtEVkFHeMxE_wQ3B0oAHoECDwQAQ\">Top-60 National Prospect<\/h3>\n<p data-dtype=\"d3ifr\" data-local-attribute=\"d3bn\" data-attrid=\"title\" data-ved=\"2ahUKEwjR-piHqeCPAxUtEVkFHeMxE_wQ3B0oAHoECDwQAQ\">Mayfield&#8217;s highest national ranking in the 2026 class currently comes via ESPN, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-sports\/basketball\/recruiting\/player\/_\/id\/266048\/gage-mayfield\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">which has him at No. 57<\/a>. Over at 247Sports, he is No. 60 overall, No. 12 at power forward and No. 1 in Alabama. At the time of this writing, the 247Sports Composite placed Mayfield at No. 63 nationally, No. 12 at power forward and No. 1 in Alabama.<\/p>\n<section class=\"rankings-section\">Turning to the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/gage-mayfield-251009\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rivals Industry Ranking<\/a>, he ranks No. 64 overall, No. 23 at small forward and No. 1 in Alabama. Rivals is the least bullish on Mayfield, slotting him at No. 88 nationwide, No. 27 at small forward and No. 1 in Alabama.<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Oklahoma&#8217;s Top Recruits in the 2026 Class<\/h3>\n<section>Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser is entering his fifth season leading Oklahoma. His career record there is 74\u201359, although he&#8217;s just 25\u201345 in conference play. In 2024-25, the Sooners went 20\u201314 overall, earning a No. 9 seed in this past spring&#8217;s NCAA Tournament.
