Sam Amico of Hoops Wire reported<\/a> the latest on the situation. The assessment was blunt. \u201cI like both players, and I think they could help us,\u201d one scout told Amico. \u201cBut honestly, no longer on anything more than minimum salaries. They\u2019re limited in what they can do nowadays.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the reality. The once-premier point guards are staring at a market that refuses to budge. Simmons is a former No. 1 overall pick. Westbrook is a future Hall of Famer. Yet both remain unsigned in late August.<\/p>\n

Neither player wants the veteran minimum. That gap could explain why Russell Westbrook remains unsigned with camp just weeks away.
