According to 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, the 6-foot-9 Oladotun will take an official visit to Big Ten Conference member Maryland on September 13. On that day, the Terrapins football team will host Towson in College Park, Md.

5-star Baba Oladotun Sets Official Visit to Hometown Team

Oladotun, a top-10 national prospect in the 2026 class, has racked up more than 40 scholarship offers from a wide range of high-major programs. That Maryland has notched his first official visit is a positive sign for the program and its new head coach, former Texas A&M boss Buzz Williams. While Oladotun could have a way to go in his recruiting process, it does appear that the Terrapins are a significant player in his recruitment.

At the time of this writing, Maryland is in the lead for Oladotun, per the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. That makes sense, because the Terps are getting his first official visit. To date, Oladotun has taken unofficial visits to a pair of Big Ten schools, USC and UCLA.

Last week, Jacob Polacheck of KSR+ reported that Oladotun, a hybrid small forward/power forward, will visit SEC member Kentucky, although a date has yet to be finalized. Polacheck noted that other suitors likely to get official visits from Oladotun in the near term include Virginia Tech, where his dad played basketball, and Gonzaga.

Paul Biancardi, the recruiting director for ESPN, says that some of the schools heavily involved with Oladotun include Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Gonzaga. The Terrapins and the Hokies figure to be in the mix for Oladotun to the end of his recruiting process. One can never discount the recruiting prowess of blue-blood programs such as Duke, Kansas and Kentucky.

Jeff Ermann of 247Sports notes that during NCAA-permitted live periods over the spring and summer months, college teams that have consistently been in attendance for Oladotun include Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Rutgers and Texas, among others. As he takes more official visits this fall, national analysts may start to make official predictions for Oladotun.

Baba Oladotun Makes Major Move to 2026

Also last week, reports surfaced that Oladotun would reclassify from the 2027 cycle to 2026. In recent months, there had been rumblings among recruiting analysts that Oladotun may move up to the 2026 class, so it wasn’t a complete surprise when this news broke last week. Still, it’s a big-time decision, as Oladotun was the No. 1 national prospect in the 2027 cycle, according to most recruiting services.

Even with the jump to the 2026 class, Oladotun remains highly ranked in the rising senior cycle. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite places him at No. 5 overall, No. 2 at small forward and No. 1 in Maryland. Over at the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking, Oladotun is No. 6 nationally, No. 2 at small forward and No. 1 in Maryland.

Could Baba Oladotun Transfer?

Another rumor that has swirled in recent months centers around Oladotun possibly transferring out of James Hubert Blake High School in Silver Spring, Md., for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Ermann noted in his recent piece that there’s been talk of Oladotun moving to The St. James Performance Academy in Springfield, Va., for what would represent his senior year.

In 2024-25, Oladotun helped guide Blake to a 23-2 record. He averaged 22.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals per game. For his play in 2024-25, MaxPreps named Oladotun a first-team All-American for the sophomore recruiting class.

© Isaiah J.
