It was reported by Chris Haynes that the Rockets had added the recent unrestricted free agent, and Keith Smart of Spotrac later mentioned that it was a two-way deal. A further transaction is not necessary because Houston only had one of their three two-way slots occupied entering Saturday in Kevon Harris. That could make him more of a factor if an injury were to occur. Houston currently rosters a starting backcourt of Fred VanVleet and Amen Thompson. They are hopeful that Reed Sheppard shows himself ready to play a larger role in his second season. They also re-signed Aaron Holiday and added Josh Okogie soon after he was waived by the Charlotte Hornets.

Davison is coming off a three-year stint with the Celtics where he played in a total of just 36 games for Boston. While he won a ring in 2024, he did not play in any of their postseason games that year.

Last season, the Alabama native appeared in 16 games for Boston. Playing 5.8 minutes per outing, Davison posted averages of 2.1 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. He also appeared in his first four career playoff games, playing a total of 13 minutes and scoring four points.

Won The G League MVP Last Season

Turning 23 years old on October 3, Davison will spend much of his time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. They are the Rockets G League affiliate. It is in the G League where he has done the majority of his damage as a player thus far.

In the 2024-25 season, Davison was named the MVP of the G League while playing for the Maine Celtics. In 45 regular season and Tip-Off Tournament outings, he averaged 25.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7.9 assists, and 1.5 steals. The combo guard shot 47.7% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc, and 76.2% from the free-throw line.

After playing one year collegiately at Alabama, the Celtics selected Davison in the second round (53rd overall) in the 2022 NBA Draft. This is the last year that he is eligible for a two-way contract. That should help him be determined to show the Rockets (and the 29 other teams) that he is an NBA-worthy player.

Photo credit: © Stephen Lew-Imagn Images

The Houston Rockets have been making moves this offseason to improve their championship odds.
