But, that will soon change as the team is preparing to make its first offseason signings. For the last several days, Al Horford’s name has been thrown as an option for the Warriors. It seems like the saga will finally end, and he will sign with the team.

Golden State Warriors Set to Make First Offseason Signings

There have been rumors about Horford going to the Warriors for several days. But according to Brett Siegel, the wait will soon be over. Horford and De’Anthony Melton are expected to sign with Golden State within days. The insider reported that several teams at NBA Summer League said the two players have verbal agreements in place with the Warriors.

Siegel also mentions another name who is connected to the Warriors: Malcolm Brogdon. He is a former Sixth Man of the Year winner and has yet to sign with any team. As a free agent, Brogdon might have to accept a high salary cut to make a contending roster. Last season, he played for a $22.5 million salary. The Warriors cannot offer such a contract, but they can offer a chance to compete. He hasn’t been on a winning team since he was traded by the Boston Celtics.

The Warriors Follow a Familiar Route

Last season, the Warriors tried to sign and trade for several big-name players on the market. After they failed to do so, they pivoted to improving their depth. That depth was crucial in the first several games, as the Warriors raced to a 12-3 start, but it was quickly crushed by injuries. Nevertheless, it seems like this offseason, they are hoping to replicate that depth to have it serve as their weapon again.

May 4, 2025; Houston, Texas, USA; Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (23) celebrates with guard Stephen Curry (30) during game seven of the first round for the 2025 NBA Playoffs against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center. They cannot afford to give a high payday to another player. But with the expected signings, they can build a 10-man rotation that should help them through the regular season.

Which Offseason Signing Will Help the Warriors the Most?

Horford should be the biggest help for the Warriors. Even though he is at the end of his career, he is still a valuable contributor. Last season, he played in 60 games, averaging 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game in 27 minutes of action. He can help GSW both offensively and defensively.

The Warriors had a stretch last season after the deadline when Quinten Post looked like a great player. The young rookie helped stretch the floor with his shooting. Now, imagine Horford getting those open looks. Last season, he shot 36.3% from three-point range. The two seasons before that, he shot 44.6% and 41.9% from behind the arc.

Melton and Brogdon could also help ease the minutes of Curry. Steph is in his 30s, and he needs to be fresh for the playoffs. While they do not shoot like Curry, they can provide an offensive spark. As last season’s playoffs showed, the Warriors are in dire need of offensive power when Steph is not in the game. They failed to score 100 points in three games against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round.

© Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images

The Golden State Warriors have had a quiet offseason so far.
