In 78 games, Knecht averaged 9.1 points and 2.8 rebounds on 46% shooting from the field and 37% from three. Following the trade that never was, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask\/dalton-knecht-stats-after-feb-8-2025\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he put up<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 8.5 points and 2.3 rebounds on 45% shooting (41% from deep).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The status of last year&#8217;s 17th pick only adds to the team&#8217;s frontcourt conundrum. Considering recent returns across the league, they\u2014along with one or more expiring contracts\u2014could still be enough for the Lakers to land one of their coveted targets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kesslwa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walker Kessler<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remains the Lakers\u2019 best bet\u2014if Utah is willing to budge from an enormously steep asking price (per ESPN\u2019s Dave McMenamin, it included multiple first-round picks). The team previously mulled over Hawks center <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/o\/okongon01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Onyeka Okongwu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a former USC Trojan, at the deadline. The same goes for Portland\u2019s <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/williro04.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robert Williams III<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Brooklyn\u2019s <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/claxtni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nic Claxton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who are both athletic two-way threats but come with notable limitations (Williams\u2019 injury history and Claxton\u2019s inconsistency).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, the rumors hovering over LA seem to align with their <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/nba\/los-angeles-lakers\/sources-lakers-running-into-a-familiar-problem-in-trade-talks\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plan for the offseason<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: to trade for a starting center and sign his backup in free agency.
