Splitter sustained the injury during a recent practice. The <strong>Brazilian<\/strong> underwent an MRI on Monday at the <strong>Emory Orthopaedics<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>Spine Center<\/strong>. The tests confirmed that Splitter will miss the start of the Hawks season.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Atlanta Hawks Tiago Splitter Out Four Weeks<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Splitter, 31, usually serves as a\u00a0role player off the bench. After making his name with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/10\/12\/keys-san-antonio-spurs-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>San Antonio Spurs<\/strong><\/a>, Splitter struggled to play in his first season with the Hawks. The big man suffered calf and hip injuries during the 2015-16 season. Splitter played just 36 games last season, starting on two occasions. Last season, Splitter averaged 5.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in what was a disappointing year.<\/p>\n<p>Splitter&#8217;s injury problems even caused the center to miss a once in lifetime opportunity, preventing him from playing\u00a0at this years <strong>Rio Olympics<\/strong>. Splitter isn&#8217;t the only Hawk big man struggling with injury; <strong>All-Star<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/millspa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Millsap<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is currently listed as day-to-day.<\/p>\n<p>Splitter was drafted 28th overall in 2007 by the <strong>San Antonio Spurs<\/strong>. Although, Splitter didn&#8217;t actually make his <strong>NBA<\/strong> debut until the 2010-11 season.<\/p>\n<p>The Hawks are currently in transition, with the team making many changes this <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/09\/11\/atlanta-hawks-off-season-better-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">off-season<\/a>. Point guard <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/teaguje01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeff Teague<\/a><\/strong> is now a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprobasketball.com\/2016\/09\/05\/pacers-biggest-eastern-conference-threat\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Pacer<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and has been replaced by the rapid <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/schrode01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Schroder<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Star center <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/horfoal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al Horford<\/a><\/strong> left the Hawks for the Boston Celtics during the off-season, putting the Hawks in the market for\u00a0a new center. That role has been filled by three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/howardw01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dwight Howard<\/a><\/strong>. Since leaving <strong>Orlando<\/strong>, Howard has struggled to find a place to call home.
