The saga continues, as the Atlanta Hawks \u201chave spoken with the (Sacramento) Kings on a potential trade framework centered around\u201d All-Star point guard Trae Young<\/a>. Though these talks \u201cstalled,\u201d they occurred \u201cin recent weeks<\/a>,\u201d per RG\u2019s Grant Afseth.<\/p>\n

Hawks Trade Negotiations Could Knock Trae Young Out Nest<\/h2>\n

With the Hawks rumored to have considered Young\u2019s agent for their President of Basketball Operations vacancy<\/a>, his position with the franchise seems to be more secure than last offseason. At that time, Atlanta appeared to be picking between he and Dejounte Murray<\/a>, both of whom were best off as lead guards. Murray was eventually traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, his maiden voyage as a captain of a new franchise ravaged by injuries<\/a> and embedded with inconsistency.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Young managed to make his fourth All-Star appearance, his second straight as an injury replacement. In any case, he deserves a lot of credit for how competitive the Hawks often are. Nonetheless, the last time Atlanta clinched a postseason berth was 2023, and at some point questions about the viability of building around Young may arise.<\/p>\n

That being said, it doesn\u2019t seem highly probable that he\u2019ll be traded one day. Yet, the possibility can\u2019t be discounted, especially as the Hawks continue to listen to offers for him. Whatever reason the deal with the Kings fell through, it indicates a willingness to explore other avenues to contention.<\/p>\n

Which is ultimately the best move.<\/p>\n

Turning Over A New Leaf<\/h3>\n

In a deal with the Kings, Atlanta likely could\u2019ve acquired any star on their roster. Given Young\u2019s age (26) and production, as well as their roster construction and head coach Quin Snyder\u2019s philosophy, Zach LaVine<\/a> or Domantas Sabonis<\/a> could\u2019ve been their principal target.<\/p>\n
