Currently holding the 55th pick, there are many directions Rob Pelinka and co. could take when filling a roster headlined by <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeBron James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. One name that has caught fans\u2019 attention is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/international\/players\/hansen-yang-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hansen Yang<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a 7\u20191\u201d Chinese center who has racked up accolades in the CBA and drawn comparisons to prominent NBA bigs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>2025 NBA Draft: Could Lakers Take a Chance on CBA DPOY?<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Background<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yang, a 19-year-old big man, has spent the last two seasons with the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association,claiming <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/pippenainteasy.com\/bulls-draft-prospect-profile-late-riser-with-unicorn-like-skillset\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defensive Player of the Year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> honors in 2024. That season, he averaged 15 points, 10.8 rebounds (8.5 defensive), 3.9 assists and 2.2 blocks per game. He built off of that impressive campaign this year, putting up 16.6 points (58.6% FG), 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.6 blocks. Adding to the pre-draft buzz, Yang <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/01\/16\/klutch-sports-signs-hansen-yang-2025-nba-draft-prospect\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signed with Klutch Sports in January<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/04\/16\/hansen-yang-chinese-klutch-declares-2025-nba-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">throwing his hat in the ring in April<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Lakers haven\u2019t had a sound passing big since <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthony Davis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (or, going back further, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gasolma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marc Gasol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), and Yang could fill that hole while shoring up other parts of his game in the G League.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Yang\u2019s lack of speed and athleticism are troubling, there\u2019s no denying his talent as a shot blocker and playmaker at the five, both aspects the Lakers would want in a rookie. Yang\u2019s strength as a finisher and growth as a roller also bode well for his <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/basketball\/breaking-hansen-yang-s-fit-la-lakers-does-7-2-klutch-sensation-really-fit-next-luka-doncic\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">potential fit<\/a> with James and Doncic\u2014skills that could only improve next to two of the league\u2019s best facilitators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hansen Yang has risen on draft boards for the right reasons, but should the Lakers snag him in the second round, he\u2019d be a worthy addition to their frontcourt.
