Unable to stave off injuries, the 33-year-old three-time All-Star became another sacrificial lamb for a Bucks squad that’s been trying to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo from running to the hills. Now, given Antetokounmpo’s rightfully earned superstar status, it’s not as if Milwaukee’s had the wrong intentions.

Nevertheless, a player like Middleton wasn’t just valuable to the Bucks because he helped them win a championship. Since being traded by the Detroit Pistons in 2013, he’s become one of the most successful players in franchise history. Perhaps not more than Antetokounmpo, a two-time league MVP.

Yet, the former second round pick’s been a treasure all the same.

Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Makes Bold Statement About Khris Middleton

For whatever reason, Antetokounmpo has been pretty active on X (formerly known as Twitter) as of late. It’s not like fans are complaining though, as it’s giving them to interact with a player who may not be accessible to them otherwise. Furthermore, the Greek Freak’s comments have been both candid and comical.

On Monday night, as the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves faced off in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals, he was simply complimentary. Responding to a question of if Middleton should get his jersey retired by the Bucks, Antetokounmpo responded in the affirmative:

“1,000 (percent),” he writes, before adding a goat emoji.

1000% 🐐 https://t.co/sKQMV7wU0I

— Giannis Antetokounmpo (@Giannis_An34) May 27, 2025

For the readers who aren’t familiar with the significance of the aforementioned emoji, people use it to express their opinion that something is the greatest of all-time (GOAT).

In this day and age, people throw ‘GOAT’ around like they’re playing catch in the backyard. At times, they’re seriously of the belief that said person or place or thing really is the best ever. However, in others, it’s used to indicate great respect or admiration.

Antetokounmpo’s tweet falls in the second category.

GOAT Status

When it comes to Bucks history, Antetokounmpo’s not even the best player to have suited up for the franchise himself.

That distinction belongs to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a six-time NBA MVP and six-time NBA champion who earned 19 All-Star selections in his career. Just six of his career seasons were played in Milwaukee but in that time, he won Rookie of the Year, an NBA championship and three MVP awards.

Antetokounmpo has been with the Bucks for 12 seasons and hasn’t accomplished all of that. Nonetheless, he still has a strong case to be considered the franchise GOAT. Not only has he won two NBA MVP awards but Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and a league championship. The length of time he’s played for Milwaukee must also be considered.

In fact, he’s the Bucks all-time leader in games (859) and minutes (28,234). While we’re on the subject, he’s also their all-time leader in career points (20,538), rebounds (8,530), assists (4,288), blocks (1,064) and triple-doubles (56), among other categories.

The Green Arrow

Middleton isn’t Milwaukee’s GOAT player, but he had an extremely impressive run.

In Bucks history, he ranks second in career games (735), second in minutes (23,039), third in points (12,586), third in assists (2,990), fifth in steals (870), and seventh in rebounds (3,598). He’s certifiably their GOAT shooter, as he’s their all-time leader in career 3s (1,382). In fact, he broke the record —previously held by Hall of Fame shooting guard Ray Allen —back in 2021.

As far as whether Middleton deserves his jersey retired by Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo was.. 1,000 percent correct.

© Benny Sieu-Imagn Images

It’s been 110 days since the Milwaukee Bucks traded Khris Middleton to the Washington Wizards.
