Yet, they\u2019re looking to take advantage of their momentum after reaching the playoffs this season. As a result, there\u2019s no assurances that they\u2019ll hold onto the pick.<\/p>\n<p>They could offer the 10th overall pick for a veteran talent. In fact, the Rockets are currently linked to Milwaukee Bucks forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/antetgi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>. Alternately, Houston could even move back in the draft to add assets, with teams like the Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks potential trade partners.<\/p>\n<h2>4 Potential Houston Rockets Draft Targets<\/h2>\n<p>If the Rockets do make a selection (and keep it), one of these four prospects could be the name that\u2019s called.<\/p>\n<h3>Khaman Maluach<\/h3>\n<p>If Houston has to replace free agent center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/adamsst01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steven Adams<\/a>, Duke center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/khaman-maluach-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Khaman Maluach<\/a>\u2019s tools should catch their eye. At the NBA Draft Combine, the South Sudan native came in at 7-foot-1 (with a 7-foot-7 wingspan and 9-foot-6 standing reach) and 253 pounds. More importantly, he\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/05\/14\/khaman-maluach-2025-nba-draft-joel-embiid\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">a watchtower on defense<\/a>. His length and shot-blocking skills complement <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sengual01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alperen <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sengual01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u015eeng\u00fcn\u2019s<\/a> improved but perhaps unreliable rim-protection.<\/p>\n<h3>Thomas Sorber<\/h3>\n<p>In keeping with the theme of replacing Adams, the Rockets should also take a long look at Georgetown freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/thomas-sorber-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas Sorber<\/a>. In fact, Sorber is <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/01\/31\/hawks-clint-capela-replacement-georgetown-thomas-sorber\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">arguably the best center<\/a> in his draft class. Nevertheless, he\u2019s a skilled scorer with playmaking upside at the offensive end. He\u2019s a very capable rim-protector at the other, but also able to guard out in space.<\/p>\n<h3>Nique Clifford<\/h3>\n<p>Colorado State super senior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/nique-clifford-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nique Clifford<\/a> wouldn\u2019t be the typical top-10 pick if selected by the Rockets because he\u2019ll be 23 years old at the time of the draft. However, it\u2019s not too out of the ordinary. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/agbajoc01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ochai Agbaji<\/a> (14th overall; 2022) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/edeyza01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Edey<\/a> (9th overall; 2024) are two recent lottery picks who were at least 22 years old the day of the draft.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">In a draft class filled with 19 year olds in the lottery, Nique Clifford should be a NO BRAINER lotto, maybe even top 10 pick.<\/p>\n<p>The ULTIMATE Swiss Army Knife that will translate so easily with a high floor + a ceiling that is higher than most perceive it to be\u2b50\ufe0f <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uNPr95L6B4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/uNPr95L6B4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ryan Hammer\ud83d\udd28 (@ryanhammer09) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ryanhammer09\/status\/1917988018247422160?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 1, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In fact, Clifford makes sense for Houston because they want to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/05\/06\/houston-rockets-offseason-crossroads\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">blend youth with experience<\/a>. Furthermore, at 6-foot-5 (with a 6-foot-8 wingspan), he\u2019s also <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/03\/20\/2025-nba-draft-nique-clifford-scouting-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">a multi-faceted wing<\/a>. The Swiss Army Knife is a match for what the Rockets are looking for in general. His footwork, instincts and touch all suggest that he could be a real scoring threat too.<\/p>\n<h3>Cedric Coward<\/h3>\n<p>If there\u2019s any wing in this draft class that should make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greenja05.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Green<\/a> sweat besides Texas freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/tre-johnson-2.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tre Johnson<\/a>, it\u2019s Washington State\/Duke junior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/cedric-coward-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cedric Coward<\/a>. With that in mind, the Rockets could be out of Johnson\u2019s draft. Less of a quick-twitch athlete but still explosive.
