The Detroit Pistons<\/a> knew they needed help at the power forward position this season. Each player offered something unique, but the constant rotation showed a lack of consistency.<\/p>\n

Enter <\/span>Trajan <\/span>Langdon, <\/span>whose <\/span>first <\/span>significant <\/span>GM <\/span>signing <\/span><\/a>was Tobias Harris<\/a><\/span>, <\/span>for <\/span>a <\/span>two-<\/span>year, $52 <\/span>million <\/span>contract<\/span>. Returning for his second stint in Detroit after five and a half seasons<\/span>\u00a0in Philadelphia, Harris averaged 17.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over 378 games. While often criticized for underwhelming playoff performances, his postseason stats \u2014 16.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 57 games \u2014 show he\u2019s been more reliable than many give him credit for.<\/p>\n

The Pistons didn\u2019t just sign Harris for his numbers, though. They brought him in to provide leadership, spacing, and maturity to a young roster desperate to return to postseason relevance. So, how did Harris\u2019s veteran presence and steady production grade out during the regular season?<\/p>\n

Harris’ production with the Pistons this season didn\u2019t quite match the level he achieved during his time with the 76ers. Across the board, his numbers took a slight dip, but his overall impact remained undeniable. Despite the statistical decline, Harris gave the Pistons exactly what they needed at the power forward position: a player who could initiate offense, space the floor, create opportunities off the dribble, and exploit mismatches depending on the defense. Whether facing a smaller or a slower defender, Harris knew how to use his strength and skill to his advantage.<\/p>\n

Defensively, Harris was just as effective. Though he\u2019s not known as an elite defender, he locked in when it mattered and provided steady coverage on his man. His positioning and ability to defend without fouling made him reliable on that end of the floor.<\/p>\n

In addition to his impact on the court, Harris proved to be one of the team\u2019s most valuable assets in leadership off the court. Known as \u201cUncle T\u201d in the locker room, he became the Pistons\u2019 calming presence during challenging moments. Harris\u2019 veteran presence<\/a> showed in clutch moments and mentoring young players, leaving a lasting impact all season.<\/p>\n

Tolu Smith<\/h3>\n

Tolu Smith<\/a> showed glimpses of his potential in the final game of the 2024-2025 season. In <\/span>the <\/span>season <\/span>finale <\/span>against <\/span>the <\/span>Milwaukee <\/span>Bucks, <\/span>Tolu <\/span>Smith was <\/span>impressive <\/span>with 14 <\/span>points <\/span>and <\/span>eight <\/span>rebounds, <\/span>showing <\/span>that he was <\/span>ready <\/span>for <\/span>NBA <\/span>minutes. <\/span>While <\/span>not <\/span>a <\/span>regular <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>Pistons\u2019 <\/span>rotation, <\/span>he <\/span>made <\/span>an <\/span>impact <\/span>through <\/span>strong <\/span>development <\/span>with <\/span>the <\/span>Motor <\/span>City <\/span>Cruise, <\/span>the <\/span>team\u2019s <\/span>G <\/span>League <\/span>affiliate.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his time with the Cruise, Smith put up eye-catching numbers, averaging 17.9 points, 13.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. His 66% field-goal shooting was particularly impressive\u2014a standout figure for a big man. His efficiency highlights his ability to finish at the rim and dominate the paint, making him a promising prospect.<\/p>\n

Chipping In<\/h3>\n

Simone Fontecchio<\/a> and Ron Holland<\/a> deserve credit for stepping up at power forward when needed, using athleticism, IQ, and grit to compete despite lacking ideal size. Their effort reflects the toughness the Pistons are trying to build. This summer, the Pistons may add a true backup power forward to ease the load and stabilize the rotation.<\/p>\n

The Last Word<\/h3>\n

The Detroit Pistons tried to improve the power forward position this season. Tobias Harris brought leadership and stability to a young locker room. His production dipped slightly, but his impact was still felt. Tolu Smith showed flashes of potential and frontcourt depth.
\nSimone Fontecchio and Ron Holland stepped up and competed when needed.<\/p>\n

Adding a backup power forward could help solidify the rotation as the offseason begins. If the front office stays bright and steady, progress will continue. With young talent developing and steady veteran leadership, the Pistons are steadily progressing toward contender status.<\/p>\n
