However, judging by what we&#8217;ve seen so far, they won&#8217;t come out of this series unscathed. Injuries from\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tatumja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jayson Tatum<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s wrist to\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/porzikr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kristaps Porzi\u0146\u0123is<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">split open forehead (which drew blood, much to Joe Mazzulla&#8217;s pleasure) are just some of the results from an intensely physical series that may rival the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/04\/23\/why-shooting-may-not-be-rockets-biggest-weakness\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Warriors-Rockets series<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0in terms of the level of physicality in the first round of these playoffs. While physical play makes the game more entertaining and competitive, sometimes it takes away, and that&#8217;s where Celtics&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jaylen Brown<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0has a problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Celtics&#8217; Jaylen Brown Faults Referees For Excessive Physicality<\/h2>\n<h3>Boston Celtics lose Game 3; Jaylen Brown is unhappy with how the series is being officiated<\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Brown left Game 3 Friday night with a dislocated left index finger after a flagrant foul from Orlando&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/anthoco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Cole Anthony<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holidjr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jrue Holiday<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0was missing from the game dealing with a hamstring issue, and surprisingly, Tatum ended up playing despite missing Game 2 after a wrist injury he suffered in Game 1. The Celtics won without Tatum but lost Game 3 with him, their first of two matchups on Orlando&#8217;s home floor. The series has turned out to be physical, but it&#8217;s been <em>too<\/em> physical from Brown&#8217;s perspective.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NoaDalzell\/status\/1915966097636872350?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1915966097636872350%7Ctwgr%5E7e1e5e3e7fae7451aff8dd269d170042226b203e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fnbaanalysis.net%2Fjaylen-brown-issues-warning-after-orlando-magic-take-game-3-vs-boston-celtics-not-even-basketball%2F\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to Gary Washburn of <em>The Boston Globe<\/em><\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Brown is unhappy with the overt physicality Orlando is handing down and pointed at the officials, accusing them of losing control of the series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>There might be a fight break out or something because it\u2019s starting to feel like it\u2019s not even basketball and the refs are not controlling their environment<\/em>,\u201d Brown said. \u201c<em>So it is what it is. If you want to fight it out, we can do that. We can fight to see who goes to the second round.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>I don\u2019t have a problem with the game being physical, but it seems like when I use my physicality, I get called in the opposite direction,<\/em>\u201d Brown said. \u201c<em>That\u2019s what my frustration was. It was just a tough whistle tonight. Maybe next game will be better, but it started in the third quarter with those two offensive fouls. I feel like the physicality, you are allowing guys to hand check and let it go on both sides then. Other than that, it was just a tough whistle for me tonight and we just got to be ready for Game 4.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Even minor injuries shouldn&#8217;t slow Boston down<\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">All the credit should be given to the Magic after stealing Game 3 at home. They played hard, and they played solid basketball. The Magic received massive contributions from <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/banchpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Paolo Banchero<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0(29 points) and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wagnefr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Franz Wagner<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0(32 points). Boston kept it tight down to the final minute, but Orlando pulled out the two-point victory (95-93). <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Amid some minor bumps, cuts, and bruises, there isn&#8217;t any strong reason to believe that Boston has lost their grip on the series. Orlando will continue to make it tough on them. Evidently, the level of physicality they&#8217;re playing with is doing the intended job. That said, the Celtics are just too good. Frankly, they&#8217;re better than the Magic to lose the series despite Orlando&#8217;s physical nature.
