Snoop Dogg is one of the most famous rappers and a huge basketball fan. Being from California, Snoop is a longtime Los Angeles Lakers fan. But even as a Lakers fan, he believes Curry is greater than Magic.

Snoop Dogg Weighs in on Steph Curry-Magic Johnson Debate

Speaking on First Take, Snoop was asked to answer whether he believes winning another ring would put Steph higher on the All-Time list. He replied,

“I don’t think the five rings just automatically passes him up. I think the fact that he shoots threes and Magic didn’t shoot threes, and he’s got more action at points and overall game. I don’t think neither one of them played like great defense, so I can’t really say that both was on both sides of the ball. I feel like the way Steph has changed the game, the whole game of basketball says a lot.”

To Snoop’s point, while Steph changed how players shoot more threes, Magic revolutionized the point guard position. There hasn’t been another point guard as big as Magic with a court vision like his. LeBron James might be the closest thing to Magic, but he doesn’t play point guard.

Snoop continued talking about all the ways Steph has revolutionized the game, saying,

“When I played, you would never run to the basket and throw it out for a three-point. You would shoot the layup, or the coach would take you out of the game. Steph got everybody in the world thinking they can shoot threes, including big men. And that’s all because of Steph.”

Snoop is an avid basketball fan and a longtime Lakers supporter. When he picks Steph Curry over Magic Johnson, it’s certainly notable.

Who Got the Best Career, Steph or Magic?

Right now, Magic has more championships, playoff appearances, regular season MVP awards, All-Star game appearances, and Finals MVPs. Steph leads only in points scored and three-point shots. The argument for Magic Johnson over Steph Curry is that he had one of the best, most dominant, and best runs. Only Michael Jordan and LeBron can compete with the run Magic had in the 1980s.

From 1980 to 1991, Magic made it to the Finals nine times and won five titles. That is an impressive run, however you look at it. His teams won 60+ games six times. Neither Jordan nor LeBron has had such an impressive run in terms of regular-season wins and Finals. Steph has six Finals, winning four of them. What Steph has is the best regular-season record, and he achieved that before Kevin Durant joined in.

At one point, Steph might clearly pass Magic for all-time. The way Steph plays the game, he can play at a high level for a few seasons. And if the Warriors add another star in the offseason, who knows, he might get one or two more titles. But right now, Magic is a legitimate top-five or top-seven player all-time.

Snoop Changed His Mind

Two years ago, Snoop Dogg made a guest appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, talking about the NBA and basketball in general. Talking about his favorite players, he didn’t mention a single modern player. Snoop has been around since the early 1980s and has seen plenty of basketball. When asked to name his favorite players, he picked Magic, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, and George Gervin. That was just two years ago. It seems like Steph has done a lot in the last two years to change his mind.

Photo credit: © Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images

Recently, there has been a ton of debate as to who the greatest point guard of all time is between Steph Curry and Magic Johnson.
