This season marks the second consecutive year Miami has drafted well, and the two Heat rookie players this season\u2014<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/l\/larsspe01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pelle Larsson<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wareke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kel&#8217;el Ware<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u2014have given Miami and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/03\/21\/miami-heat-erik-spoelstra-late-game-struggles\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0much to be happy about. Specifically, in Larsson&#8217;s case, Spoelstra sees an &#8216;interesting young guy&#8217; as he puts it. That&#8217;s not all the league-wide respected bench boss had to say about his rookie, though.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Heat Rookie Showing Erik Spoelstra A Bevy of Intangibles<\/h2>\n<h3>Miami Heat Rookie Pelle Larsson Has Erik Spoelstra Calling Him An &#8216;Ignitable Player&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Larsson and Ware have stood tall in their first seasons in the NBA. Ware has been granted the most minutes between the two, averaging 21 per night to Larsson&#8217;s 12. Spoelstra has taken to the mic on more than one occasion this season to talk about Ware and what he&#8217;s brought to the table in his inaugural season. Now, it&#8217;s Larsson&#8217;s turn to receive <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">some<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> positive musings from his head coach. Larsson is coming off playing 30 minutes against the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/03\/30\/nick-nurse-frustrations-76ers-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Philadelphia 76ers<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0this weekend. It also happened to be a Heat win, their fourth in a row following 10 consecutive losses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Following Pelle&#8217;s 14-point performance against the Sixers,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/t93KCe9QhHQ\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Spoelstra spoke in the postgame press conference<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and offered a bevy of intangibles that Larsson has shown over the course of the season. Some of Larsson&#8217;s exploits don&#8217;t appear on the stat sheet, and Spoelstra highlighted those equally to the ones that do\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">[8:55 mark]<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPelle, he\u2019s just an ignitable player, he makes things\u00a0happen out there,&#8221; <\/em>Spoelstra said<em>. &#8220;The steals, the deflections, the hard plays, those are momentum shifting plays that he has a knack for, and he spends so much time in the gym that the rest of his game is getting better.\u00a0The playmaking, the shooting, the facilitating, he\u2019s a really interesting young guy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>A Good Future Ahead in South Beach<\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It&#8217;s the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">hard<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> plays\u2014the momentum-shifting ones that don&#8217;t appear on a stat sheet. But Spoelstra is the type of coach who loves players who do the non-statistical hard work. Larsson is only averaging 4.0 points on the season, but the other things he does to impact that game are making a difference and an impression. The same was said for\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jaqueja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jaime Jaquez Jr<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">., who the Heat drafted in the 2023 offseason, now playing in his second season. He came in his rookie year and earned Spoelstra&#8217;s trust almost immediately. It wasn&#8217;t necessarily because of his scoring or shooting. Instead, the hard work, fighting for balls and making game-changing plays with his effort earned Spoelstra&#8217;s trust. Larsson appears to be taking some of Jaquez&#8217;s heart and mindset and transferring it to himself. It&#8217;s no wonder Spoelstra likes what he sees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This season appears lost, and offseason changes are surely to come. However, as it stands with their young players, Miami has a solid bunch. All the Heat need now is a contending team built around\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/adebaba01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Bam Adebayo<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/herroty01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tyler Herro<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Perhaps another superstar will enter the fold during the summer.
