Scoot Henderson was recently evaluated for a concussion after their last game against the Kings. This makes Portland’s Play-In hopes much murkier. The Blazers rebuild also takes a hit with him out.

Scoot Henderson’s Concussion Could Hurt Play-In Hopes

The Portland Trail Blazers are still in the Play-In Tournament race, sitting four games behind the Dallas Mavericks. Chauncey Billups’ team chances are slim, but the players want to compete for a Play-In spot. Unfortunately, Scoot Henderson’s possible concussion could be a huge problem for the team.

Scoot is not a starter, yet he is vital to the rotation. He is not the superstar player he was once hyped up to be, but he showed some promising signs.

Henderson’s Concussion Evaluation Could Hurt His Productive Season

For the 2024-25 season, Scoot has been relatively healthy throughout the campaign. He has stepped into the starting lineup 10 times, averaging 16.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. The former G-League Ignite star has proven he deserves a spot on the Trail Blazers. It could even be as the starting point guard when the Blazers realize what to do with Anfernee Simons.

Of course, it has not been all sunshine and rainbows for Scoot as he struggled in the first few months. He has taken massive strides mostly because he is a better three-point shooter at 35.4%. Henderson has lessened his turnovers from 3.4 in 23-24 to 2.7 per game in 24-25. Concussions can be tricky and there is no clear timetable for Henderson to return.

You can tell a flip has switch mentally regarding Scoot Henderson’s confidence as a shooting

You can especially tell he’s comfortable when he steps into his 3s

And that’s why he’s shooting 40% from 3 since January 1st on a healthy 4.9 3PA/g pic.twitter.com/BoySKjnSoX

— Point Made Basketball (@pointmadebball) March 18, 2025

This is a shame because Scoot looks ready to start if Portland trades Simons for the Blazers rebuild. The season’s final few games could have been the opportunity to showcase his talent. With some concussion symptoms, that could rule him out for multiple games.

Dalano Banton Will Have More Opportunities

The 24-25 campaign has been huge for Portland’s players because they have taken advantage of every opportunity. Deni Avdija is probably the biggest breakout star, leaping into borderline All-Star territory. Toumani Camara has also massively improved, becoming one of the league’s best defenders this season.

If Henderson’s concussion goes through, Simons and Dalano Banton will be the point guard rotation. Banton could go on another heater, which he tends to do when given the opportunity. This season, his averages are 7.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He has not been the most efficient from the field (41.4%), but he is a decent three-point shooter at 36.4%.

🇨🇦 Represent The Canadians 🇨🇦

Dalano Banton | vs. Denver

19 POINTS
5 ASSISTS
3 REBOUNDS
3 STEALS
3 BLOCKS pic.twitter.com/T6SC3olp40

— NBA Canada (@NBACanada) March 22, 2025

Since he will back up Simons, Banton must also showcase his playmaking ability. The final few games provide an opportunity for Banton, considering he becomes a free agent after the 24-25 campaign. Scoot’s possible injury will hurt, but Banton will do his best to be productive when he gets the minutes.

The Trail Blazers still have eight games left in the season, as every game will be important for the team. They will want to compete for a Play-In spot, which could lead to them playing their hearts out. The motivation could be exciting, as they want to catch up to the Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns. It might be unlikely, but the Blazers battling for something outside the Draft lottery could motivate them further.

© Sergio Estrada-Imagn Images

Scoot Henderson is having a resurgent season, but it might end earlier than expected.
