On February 9, 2023, the Knicks acquired him in a four-team deal which involved them giving up Cam Reddish and a 2023 first round pick. He paid immediate dividends as the Knicks won their first eight games with him in the lineup. Now in his second full season with the team, Hart has become one of the more beloved players on the roster. Hart and star point guard Jalen Brunson recently spoke with Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, and Hart gave his comments on his placement in the league.

Josh Hart Believes He’s Finally Confirmed Himself As Good Player

Josh Hart Speaks With HoopsHype

Brunson and Hart have been friends since they were teammates at Villanova. They now host a podcast together called the Roommates Show. Scotto was able to interview both of them, but had an individual question directed at Hart.

Scotto: Josh, it’s been a career year for you, and you’re leading the league in minutes played. What’s allowed you to take such a step forward in your career with your play on the court?

Hart: I think this is the first year for me that I feel like I solidified myself in being a good player in the league. I wasn’t worried about trying to prove myself to anybody. We’ve got JB (Brunson), KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns), Mikal (Bridges), and OG (Anunoby). How can I help these guys maximize their opportunities, kind of be a servant for them, and also be available for Thibs (Tom Thibodeau)? I think I took that mentality and went with that. It opened doors for me that I didn’t think were possible or were in my vision at the time. My biggest thing is I want to make sure these guys are good, and I want to make sure they get the recognition, contracts, and accolades that come with being in their position.

Much of that answer further displays the selfless attitude that Hart has shown with the Knicks. The first part of his answer also could have some truth to it. He certainly was a good player before this season, but more people have taken notice. Hart actually found his name on some All-Star snub lists despite not being a huge scorer.

On Monday, he even tied a longstanding Knicks record.

Triple-Doubles Franchise Record

Monday night saw the Knicks take care of business in a 116-95 victory over the Miami Heat. Hart recorded a triple-double in the win. The 30-year-old scored 12 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists.

That was Hart’s eighth triple-double of the season. He now has tied Walt Frazier for the most triple-doubles in a single season in franchise history. The legendary point guard tallied eight way back in the 1968-69 season.

With the Knicks owning a 43-24 record, there are 15 more games for Hart to attempt to have one more triple-double and be the sole holder of the Knicks single-season record. His first try to do so comes on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs.

Photo credit: © Brad Penner-Imagn Images

At the time of the trade, New York Knicks fans did not realize how much they’d grow to appreciate the relentless effort of Josh Hart.
