Playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, they always share posts with each other on social media. Their camaraderie has become an inspiration for fans. From day one, Yuki became a fan favorite in Memphis. But he has also developed a special relationship with the Grizzlies’ franchise player.

Ja Morant Teaches Yuki Kawamura How to Swear in English

Speaking with a Japanese reporter recently, Yuki talked about how he and Ja Morant have developed their friendship. The smallest player on the Grizzlies views Morant as a role model, someone who has taken him under his wing. He said,

“Ja Morant is like my big brother. He teaches me basketball skills and English. Well, sometimes, he teaches me bad slang. I am not sure if you can use this, but things like type sh*t.”’

It is interesting to see the bond between these two develop. Ja is one of the most recognizable superstars in the NBA. He is famous for his insane dunks and highlights. Yuki, on the other hand, is a Japanese player and the smallest point guard in the NBA. But he has also brought so much joy and attention to the team. Fans around the league love Yuki, and they cheer for him to succeed.

From the start of the season, Ja has been vocal about Yuki and how much joy he brings to the team. In an earlier interview, he said,

“He just brings a light and joy to the team. Just making sure he’s as comfortable as possible. Just making sure that he’s being him, and he ain’t shying away from it at all… A lot of stuff he learns and he just says and it don’t be at the right moment… But aye man, it’s Yuki. It’s his world and we’re just living in it.”

The Kawamura Morant dynamic is the best example of how sports can connect people from different backgrounds.

Ja and Yuki Have a Special Bond

Yuki is a fan favorite in Memphis, despite playing only a few minutes in garbage time. In 20 games this season, the Japanese guard averages little over three minutes per game. On the other hand, he is playing quite a lot in the G League.

When Yuki plays for the Memphis Hustle, Ja Morant’s daughter is among his biggest supporters. Whenever she can, she comes to watch him playing for the Memphis G League team. That shows how big of a friendship Yuki and Ja have. Speaking about Ja’s daughter cheering for him, he said,

“I love it. She brings the energy to every G League game and NBA game. We couldn’t win for her tonight. I was disappointed in the result. She’s my goat. Kaari is my goat.”

Yuki, the Players’ Favorite Man in Memphis

Being one of the few Japanese players in the NBA brings a certain flair. But Yuki is also quite charismatic. And let’s be honest, while he gets little to no playing time in the NBA, he brings flair to G League games, every game he has an amazing assist. While he and Ja are great friends, Yuki makes sure to support other Grizzlies players as well. In January, he lobbied for his teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. to get more All-Star votes.

Ja Morant and Yuki Kawamura have a close friendship.
