George was at 97 three-pointers going into last night’s game and needed three to break the record. He went scoreless through the first three quarters, missing one shot attempt. However, the fourth quarter was a completely different story. George came up extremely clutch, hitting three three-pointers in the fourth, with two inside the game’s final two minutes. The first of the two tied the game at 121, and the second came in their next possession to take the lead. George didn’t just break the record, he had an all-around stat sheet. His nine points went along nicely with four rebounds, an assist, and three steals, with only one turnover in 29 minutes. He ended the night shooting 37.5% from the field and 50% from three.

George has been playing well in the last 10 games with the minutes increase he’s received. He’s been playing 31.2 minutes a game while averaging 10.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.4 steals, and an impressive 1.7 blocks. His shooting splits aren’t great at 38.5% from the field and 36.1% from three. However, all of these numbers are well over his season averages.

The Rest of the Team

The Wizards won the game 129-125 after coming up short in their previous matchup against the Pistons earlier this week. With Bilal Coulibaly out due to injury, the whole team stepped up and delivered. Alex Sarr led the team in points with 19, while Justin Champagnie led the team in rebounds at nine. Marcus Smart and Khris Middleton had their best games as Wizards. Smart posted 15 points, seven assists, and four rebounds. Middleton had 16 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high of eight assists. Bub Carrington scored 16 on 50% shooting. Jordan Poole had an all-around performance with 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Team Outlook

The Wizards are 4-3 so far in March, marking the best start to a month all season for them. Looking forward, they will try to keep the decent stretch alive as they are headed into game five of a seven-game road trip against the Denver Nuggets. The Wizards are still 15th in the East but they are now only two games back from the Charlotte Hornets. With a 14-51 overall record the Wizards have the worst record in the league however, they are just a half-game behind the Utah Jazz. Despite their solid play lately the Wizards are hoping to secure a bottom-three record so they have the best lottery odds possible.

Photo credit: © Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images

Kyshawn George has officially been placed in the Washington Wizards’ franchise record books.
