However, this does not mean they were completely quiet. At the trade deadline, Boston shipped out guard Jaden Springer to the Houston Rockets. The Rockets ultimately waived Springer before he made his way to the Utah Jazz. While most expected the Celtics to trade Springer, it was still a slightly controversial move. The North Carolina native did not get much playing time, but when he did, he looked solid, especially as a defender. Still, the Celtics made the decision and saved a lot of money by doing so.

On Monday night, Springer and the Jazz took on the Celtics for the first time since the trade. Though he did not appear in the game, many fans still kept their eye out on him. Before the game, Springer spoke about his trade from Boston. In doing so, he revealed that Brad Stevens gave him “a heads-up” that a trade might happen. Springer said he was appreciative of this.

“Brad told me when (the trade) was in the works,” Springer said. “He told me, gave me a heads-up that something might happen. I’m happy he gave me a heads-up. I appreciate Brad for bringing me in, letting me get a championship with the guys and be on the team. So I appreciate them. I’ve got love for them. That’s pretty cool.”

Utah Jazz Role Player Jaden Springer ‘Appreciated’ This About Trade From Celtics

Jaden Springer Enjoys Playing for the Jazz

Despite going from the reigning champions to the worst team in the Western Conference, Springer made his feelings on the Jazz very clear. The Tennessee alum said he likes the roster and its youth.

“I like this team,” he said. “It’s a young team. Everybody likes each other. It’s good energy. So I’m happy where I’m at.”

“It was a lot, but it was pretty cool,” Springer said Monday before the Jazz’s 114-108 loss to the Celtics at TD Garden. “It was fun. Embrace the journey, you know? I’m happy where I’m at, settled in in Utah with the team. A bunch of great players, a bunch of great staff, so they brought me in, showed me how everything goes and got me up to speed pretty quick.”

Despite being lottery-bound this season, there is a lot to like about Utah’s roster. Additionally, given that they have a shot at drafting Cooper Flagg later this year, their outlook for the future may soon look even better. The Jazz are not going to compete for any championships soon. However, there is still a lot of potential and excitement there.

The Last Word

While his career in Boston was short, Celtics fans are aware of Springer’s potential. In Utah, he should be able to have some opportunities to showcase his talents and become a long-term contributor for the team. Springer will face off against his old team once again on March 21. This may be something worth monitoring as the regular season approaches its end.

© Stephen Lew-Imagn Images

Ahead of this year’s trade deadline, the Boston Celtics were not too busy.
