But we now know his next career move. It is a historic first for the basketball star, as he will officially join Davidson’s basketball teams. Steph Curry played three seasons at Davidson from 2006 to 2009. The Warriors guard returned to the college in 2022 to complete his undergraduate degree. Steph is also inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame.

Last year, NFL quarterback Andrew Luck accepted a general manager position at his alma mater Stanford. But he was not active anymore when he accepted the job.

Curry Will Take Care for Younger Players

In his new role, Steph and his wife Ayesha Curry, alongside longtime Davidson supporters Don, Matt, and Erica Berman will create an eight-figure fund to support the basketball teams of the college. Davidson asked them to serve in advisory roles, investing their time and sharing experience with men’s and women’s basketball teams. Curry will use resources from his major sponsor, Under Armour.

Curry will try to help Davidson athletes compete in the top ranks of college athletics. He joins the college in a new landscape. Now, athletes are allowed to profit from their name, image, and likeness. Speaking of the move, Curry said,

“The Davidson experience is top-notch. My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni, and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high-character student-athletes to have that same experience.”

In this new role, Curry will work with general manager Austin Buntz, who is a former member of Under Armour’s global sports marketing team. The Golden State Warriors star signed with Under Armour in 2013 and launched his Curry Brand in 2020. Recently, he signed a lifetime contract shoe deal with the company. The decorated champion will now use his experience to help younger players.

Steph Curry’s Career at Davidson

Steph Curry spent three years at Davidson, playing 34 games in 2006-07, 36 in 2007-08, and 34 during the 2008-09 season. He is the NCAA single-season holder with 162 three-pointers made during the 2007-09 season. The former MVP ranks first all-time at Davidson with 284 career three-point shots made. He is also the leader in free-throw percentage and ranks second in school history with a career scoring average of 23.7.

During his career at Davidson, Curry scored in double figures in all but one contest at Duke in 2006. He has hit five or more threes in a contest 19 times during his college career. Fun fact: Steph has a 13-1 record at the MSG in New York, and one of those wins came during his college career. Curry’s time at Davidson is most remembered for his Elite 8 run in 2008.

During the 2008-09 season, he made it to the All-America first-team, alongside Blake Griffin, James Harden, DeJaun Blair, and Tyler Hansbrough. Griffin and Harden were drafted before Steph in the 2009 draft. The year before, he made the second team.

Photo credit: © Jeremy Brevard-Imagn Images

Steph Curry will become the first active player in any US Major sports league that has taken an administrative job with the NCAA.
