This question has been asked a million times, and every great player has gotten the opportunity to be mentioned. Many people believe it is <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jordami01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Jordan<\/a>. Some believe <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a> has taken the title. On TNT the other night, however, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/o\/onealsh01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shaquille O\u2019Neal<\/a> brought a new name to the debate table. After <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/curryst01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephen Curry<\/a>\u2019s dominant performance against the Knicks in MSG, O\u2019Neal \u201cdemanded\u201d that Curry be added to the GOAT conversation. Shaq\u2019s Curry quote has certainly sparked debate in NBA circles, but is there some validity to it?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Shaq Believes Steph Curry Deserves GOAT Consideration<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Shaq\u2019s Curry Love Goes Above and Beyond<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shaq has always loved Curry. It seems like every chance he gets he tries to give him his much-deserved flowers. He was chosen to Shaq\u2019s team in this year\u2019s All-Star draft and repaid his GM with an <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/02\/17\/players-nba-all-star-game-mvp-home-arena\/\" target=\"_self\">All-Star Game MVP<\/a>. Shaq had previously said on <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/why-shaq-loves-steph-says-144503942.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Angel Reese\u2019s podcast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cYou know why I love Steph Curry? \u2026 If you look at Steph on the street, he doesn\u2019t have the LeBron muscle\u2026he looks like a normal office guy. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But he&#8217;s doing stuff that we&#8217;ve never seen before.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is part of why Curry captured the world with his play. He is humble, unassuming, and above all, smaller than almost everyone he shares the court with. Although Curry only had 28 points, he added nine assists and seven rebounds to his stats sheet and continued his near-perfect recent record against the Knicks in MSG. Curry is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nba\/warriors\/news\/steph-curry-makes-nba-history-in-warriors-vs-knicks-01jnjfhjy88w\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12-1 against the Knicks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in MSG and hasn\u2019t lost in that building in over 12 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Shaq Demands Curry Be Added to the GOAT Conversation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This sparked Shaq to praise Curry on another level. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shaq said, \u201cI played against Mike, played with Kobe, played against and with LeBron. They&#8217;re all great&#8230; But at some point, we&#8217;re going to have to put Steph Curry in that category\u2026 I ain&#8217;t never seen nothing like that before, and nobody has. And how many [rings] he got? One, two, three, four, against LeBron. I demand that people start putting my guy in that conversation, period.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shaq certainly has a point. If LeBron is your GOAT then shouldn\u2019t he have more championships than Curry? Curry has the same amount of rings as James, in fewer years, with less future hall-of-fame teammates, and all on one team. That definitely can spark debate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On top of that, Curry completely changed the game. This is part of why Shaq may have so much reverence for him. Both Shaq and Curry completely changed the game with their dominance. Rules were changed, along with playing styles, and strategies. All just to adjust to their supremacy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curry probably won\u2019t get six championships like Jordan. By raw counting numbers, he will likely never be able to compete with James. However, the dominance of his era and the fact that he completely changed the way basketball is played needs to be recognized.
