Now in his eighth season, the now 27-year-old has started every game that he has appeared in since his third year. While it’s been somewhat of a down season for Adebayo when compared to recent years, he is beginning to turn it around of late. After his performance on Monday, Bam Adebayo now has a new career Miami Heat record.

Bam Adebayo Sets New Heat Franchise Record On Monday

Adebayo Now Has Heat Record For Career Double-Doubles

The Heat were able to defeat the lowly Washington Wizards on Monday by the score of 106-90. The victory improved to 29-31 on the season. Playing 31 minutes in the contest, the 6-foot-9 Adebayo scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. It was his 31st double-double in his 58 outings this season. The power forward/center now has 222 for his career which is the most in franchise history.

That 222nd double-double allowed Adebayo to surpass Rony Seikaly for the most career double-doubles in Heat history. A 6-foot-11 center, Seikaly spent his first six seasons with Miami spanning from 1988-98 until 19983-94. Named the 1989-90 Most Improved Player, he averaged a points and rebounds double-double in each of his last five seasons with the squad.

Adebayo spoke after the game about the feat he had accomplished. The three-time NBA All-Star said,

“Man, I’m so glad to get that record out the way, I’ve been trying to break that record for the past three games, like the rebounds would just not fall my way. So you know, it was just a special moment, because one, he was here and he was on broadcast when I done it. So a special moment for me and my family man, just when I got here, I wanted to just mark Miami history at some point, whatever that may be, and be able to be a franchise leader in something, blessed to have that.”

Asked Bam Adebayo about his emotions obtaining the double-double franchise record from Rony Seikaly.

“I’m so glad to get that record out the way…it was a special moment, because one, he was here…when I got here I wanted to mark Miami history whatever that may be…” #HeatNation pic.twitter.com/4rRZuJ6Rr8

— Zachary Weinberger (@ZachWeinberger) March 4, 2025

While Adebayo has improved his scoring efficiency in recent contests, he also recorded single-digit rebound totals for five straight games prior to Monday. So it must have felt great for Adebayo to finally secure enough boards to surpass Seikaly’s total.

Miami Likely To Be In Play-In Tournament

On the season, Adebayo is averaging 17.2 points while shooting 48.6% from the field. It is the first time in his career that he is making less than half of his field goal tries and his lowest scoring average since 2019-20.

Both numbers have been increasing of late though for the five-time All-Defensive member. In his last 15 outings, Adebayo is shooting 56.4% from the field while averaging 21.9 points. The double-doubles franchise leader hasn’t let the increased workload after trading Jimmy Butler allow his play to suffer.

Meanwhile, Adebayo and the Heat have 22 regular season games remaining. It looks highly likely that they will be in the Play-In Tournament. They are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference, five games behind the sixth-seeded Detroit Pistons. Their next game is on Wednesday on the road against the East-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.

Photo credit: © Rhona Wise-Imagn Images

Since being selected with the 14th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Bam Adebayo has been a member of the Miami Heat.
