The Trail Blazers rebuild continues to improve, especially when Avdija’s triple-double is a sign of things to come.

Deni Avdija’s Triple-Double Helps Cement His Future In Portland

The Trail Blazers continue to be one of the most impressive teams of 2025. They are 14-6 over the past 20 games, which included some tough matchups. Their most recent game was an overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was a crushing defeat, but Avdija was a bright spot recording 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Avdija’s stellar performance and triple-double could cement his role in Portland’s future. Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson are often the talking points for the Blazers rebuild. But wings like Avdija and Toumani Camara should also be in the conversation. Their continued development could be the key to the Blazers’ rebuild succeeding.

Despite the loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Deni Avdija put up:

• 30 points
• 12 rebounds
• 10 assists

He joins Damian Lillard and Clyde Drexler as the only Blazers in the last 30 years to record a 30 point triple-double. pic.twitter.com/GTtYyZk9RB

— ENJ🏀Y (@EnjoyBBall) March 2, 2025

The Avdija Triple-Double Could Be A Preview For His Role

Since entering the league in 2020, Avdija has been a versatile player. Many pre-draft scouting reports, including now-Portland front office member Mike Schmitz, compared him to Luka Doncic. Of course, Avdija is different from the now-Lakers superstar. However, his triple-double has re-ignited some of those comparisons and improved his standing in the Blazers rebuild.

The 24-year-old is better as a wing player than Luka, a prime ball-handler. Avdija’s biggest strength is his combination of power and pace, which makes him a transition threat. This is useful in half-court sets for isolation plays and when he wants to create for his teammates. His strengths make Portland’s future even more exciting with him as a building block.

Avdija is playing with Henderson and Anfernee Simons, who are high-level creators. That bodes well because he could serve as their secondary playmaker who can do it all. The triple-double proved his versatility, and he will continue that level of performance. It was his first triple-double, which surprised Simons because Avdija is such a versatile teammate.

“That’s surprising, wow. I thought he would’ve gotten one by now. With the way he plays, I think it’s the way we were playing. It benefited Deni so much, how much space he was playing,” Simons said in a post-game interview. “It’s good to see him in a good situation where he can show his full talent.”

If they make the right moves this offseason

The Blazers will be a playoff team in 2026

— Matt (@sixringsofsteeI) March 2, 2025

The Blazers Rebuild Keeps Getting More Exciting

Avdija is at the perfect age to be part of Portland’s future alongside Henerson, Sharpe, Camara, and Donovan Clingan. The Blazers rebuild is still incomplete, but Portland’s future looks bright with every development.

The 2024-25 season started badly for Portland with plenty of losses. That is not the case in 2025 because the Blazers have hit their stride. If they continue to do this, they could be a team in the Play-In Tournament. Some people would prefer a high draft pick, but the elation they get from wins is undeniable.

Portland’s players want to win games rather than stay in the lottery spots. Competing is good, and people should realize that the team is getting sharper because of its success. They are not the best in the Western Conference, but their progress is becoming noticeable.

“It’s a tough loss, honestly. I think we competed, this is a very good team. The fact that we were up most of the game, we controlled the game. I’m just proud of the guys, we played hard. We showed our future, our skill, and our talent today,” Avdija said after the close loss to Cleveland.

With performances like Avdija’s triple-double, the Blazers’ rebuild will continue to improve. Portland will become a dangerous team, especially as the players embrace Chauncey Billups’ system.

© Ken Blaze-Imagn Images

Deni Avdija has continued to prove he has a place in Portland’s future.
