That being said, SNY insider Ian Begley reports that the Knicks have Dallas Mavericks big man Moses Brown in their crosshairs. Brown, a 7-foot-2 center, is currently on a 10-day contract.

Knicks Have Interest In Mavs Center Moses Brown

Normally, teams would be able to sign players to a maximum of two 10-day contracts before having to make a decision on bringing them on for the remainder of the season. In fact, veteran center Bismack Biyombo just went through this process to get a standard contract from the San Antonio Spurs. Though he signed a two-way contract, rookie center Branden Carlson latched on with the Oklahoma City Thunder the same way.

Something worth noting: due to financial restrictions, Dallas can’t sign Moses Brown to a second 10 day deal. The center is among players on the Knicks’ radar for 15th roster spot, per people familiar with the matter. Brown, who played high school basketball at Archbishop…

— Ian Begley (@IanBegley) February 28, 2025

Brown apparently won’t get that chance with the Mavs. If they sign Brown to a two-way contract that could change, as those don’t count against the salary cap. To do so though, they would need to waive at least one of Kessler Edwards, Kylor Kelly, or Brandon Williams, who are all on two-way deals. They would also have to complete these moves by March 4.

Because Kelly is another seven-foot center, he seems like the most likely candidate if Dallas did go that route.

Insulating Their Center Depth

With promising rookie center Ariel Hukporti out for at least a month, it makes sense for the Knicks to insulate their depth chart.

The fact that Mitchell Robinson is nearing his season debut is good news for New York. The former second-round pick is one of the best shot-blockers and rebounders that the Knicks have ever had. However, he’s played fewer than 60 games in four of the last five seasons. When he returns, he’ll have played fewer than 32 games in three of the past five seasons.

All of that is to say that Robinson’s not the most reliable player in terms of staying healthy. With Karl-Anthony Towns also banged up, it just wouldn’t hurt to have a player like Brown at their disposal.

3 Of A Kind

Simply put, Brown’s a gigantic human being. Indeed, he’d be the tallest player on the Knicks’ roster and they have three true seven-footers. With that size comes a natural intimidation factor, which is among the reasons his block rate isn’t as high as it would seem. Yet, Brown’s footwork and instincts also allow him to provide solid defense.

Then, at the other end, he’s shown himself capable of being a force. Because of how big he is, he’ll often just finish with a flush. A true big man, much of his offense comes from dump-offs and putbacks. Yet, he can also finish around the rim.

He might get lost in the depth chart when New York is fully healthy. Nonetheless, he can play a real role for the Knicks right now. The same one that Hukporti and Robinson have.

© Jerome Miron-Imagn Images

The New York Knicks are considering several players with their final roster spot, even ones who are currently playing for another team.
