The young up-and-comers have officially won eight straight games and are tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers as the hottest team in the NBA. The Boston Celtics vs <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/02\/25\/pistons-impressive-streak-can-they-defeat-celtics\/\" target=\"_self\">Detroit Pistons<\/a> game on Wednesday night was a huge indicator that perhaps the Pistons need to be taken seriously in the Eastern Conference as a potentially dangerous playoff opponent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Playoff Teams Should Be Worried About The Pistons<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Pistons Season So Far<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pistons are finally starting to play like a real NBA team. Over the last five seasons, they have been one of the worst franchises in the NBA, but things may finally be starting to turn around. The Pistons are currently 33-26 and the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference standings. It is looking like not only will they make the playoffs, but they may not even need to earn their spot through a play-in tournament win. For a team that hasn\u2019t won more than 23 regular season games in five years, this is a huge accomplishment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pistons are just solid overall. They are 13th in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/advanced?dir=A&amp;sort=OFF_RATING\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offensive efficiency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and 11th in <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/advanced?dir=A&amp;sort=DEF_RATING\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defensive efficiency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cunnica01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cade Cunningham<\/a> is showing that he could be a superstar worth building around. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thompau01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ausar Thompson<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/durenja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jalen Duren<\/a> are looking like solid young building blocks, and they\u2019ve been winning all these games without their second-leading scorer, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/iveyja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaden Ivey<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Boston Celtics vs Detroit Pistons Game<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">PISTONS BEAT THE CELTICS AND HAVE THEIR 8TH STRAIGHT W FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2008 \ud83d\ude31 <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LiLyjI0yMS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/LiLyjI0yMS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BleacherReport\/status\/1894934257757483213?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">February 27, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not only was the Pistons&#8217; win against the Celtics on Wednesday night a potential showing that the Pistons could be a tough playoff out, but it was a franchise accomplishment as well. This eight-game winning streak is their longest since 2008. That is quite a drought.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/recap?gameId=401705402\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">snapped a losing streak<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against the Celtics. They had lost 12 straight to Boston, making this win all the sweeter. Cunningham and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/beaslma01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Malik Beasley<\/a> led the Pistons on the offensive end for the win, but the Pistons defense holding Boston to only 97 points was key. Cunningham had 21 points and 11 assists while Beasley dropped 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pistons-Celtics game was just the latest example of how good the Pistons really are.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Can the Pistons Win in the Playoffs?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Games like Wednesday Night have to make you start to think. Can the Pistons make some noise in the playoffs this season? They may have Ivey back by then, and they are already showing they can beat any team on any given night. Winning in the playoffs, however, is a much more difficult feat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One thing the Pistons have going for them is they have nothing to lose. They are ahead of schedule, and right now, their first-round playoff matchup would be with the New York Knicks, a team that had sky-high expectations. Still, the top three teams in the East are going to be very difficult to beat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pistons could win a playoff series however if they can climb up to the fourth or fifth seed. Right now those spots are inhabited by the Pacers and Bucks, two teams with many more flaws than the top three seeds. Regardless of what happens this Celtics vs Pistons game shows that the Pistons aren\u2019t to be underestimated.
