Well, that is no more. The Philadelphia 76ers forward talked about his podcast career, saying it is over for now. As of February 25th, PG is retiring his Podcast P and is focusing on helping the Sixers make the playoffs.

Podcast P No More – Paul George Steps Away from the Mic

PG closed the last Podcast with Dwight Howard as his guest, with a special message for the viewers. He said,

“It’s no secret this season up to this point hasn’t been what we envisioned. I know my goal when I first signed with Philadelphia was to bring a championship to these amazing fans. I still remain positive about that, and that is still the case… With that being said, I want to let the Podcast P family know that after today’s episode with Dwight, I plan to take a break from the Pod just to focus on getting my body right, getting mentally right and you know, help this squad make a push towards our goal to finish the season and give a chance to be in contention.”

Is It Too Late for the Sixers?

The fun part is that the latest episode of Podcast P dropped a few hours before the Sixers’ blowout loss against the Chicago Bulls. Before the game, the Sixers were on a seven-game losing streak, and the Bulls were on a six-game losing streak. And then the Bulls blew the Sixers by 30+ points. If PG wanted to focus on his career with the Sixers, and not his Podcast, he should have stopped earlier.

After signing a four-year $211 million contract over the offseason George is having a disappointing season. In 38 games George is averaging, 16.2 points, 5.2 points, and 4.2 assists on 43.2/35.5/81.3 shooting spilts. He has been central to the Sixers’ shortcomings this season. At 34 George’s contract looks awful and there are serious long-term concerns with this Sixers’ core. However, focusing solely on basketball could help George get back on track this season.

Paul George Admits Harsh Reality

Following the game against the Chicago Bulls, Paul George delivered a brutal reality check for the team and himself. He said,

“Regardless of who’s playing or who’s not playing, to have admiration or for this group to believe that we can be, not even to get to the playoffs, but make a push towards it, we’ve shown no sign of a team that will compete. We just don’t have the habits of a champion or a playoff-contending team would have. So, to be honest, right now, it’s a little far-fetched. All we can do is work hard and try to just keep going for one another.”

The good news for the Sixers is they play in the Eastern Conference. They are still only two losses out of the play-in position. But at this point, with Joel Embiid battling injuries, it is worth asking whether it is time to start tanking. The only good thing that can come out of this Sixers season is keeping their top-six protected draft pick.

Photo credit: © Brad Penner-Imagn Images

A few weeks ago, there was a crazy stat that Paul George has uploaded more YouTube clips of his podcast than made field goals.
