Additionally, many teams reportedly had interest in Johnson. Ultimately, nothing came to fruition.

Recently, Nets GM Sean Marks opened up about the trade deadline. In doing so, Marks revealed that “there was a lot of interest in” Johnson. However, the Nets value him a lot and like his fit with the team.

“With Cam, there was a lot of interest in him just as there was with a lot of our guys, but we like Cam, and we think Cam fits multiple builds that we are doing. He’s a voice of reason. He’s well-respected within that locker room. He’s a pro’s pro. So if people can learn from somebody, they learn from Cam Johnson. That’s a great guy to pick up habits from.”

In his third season with the Nets, the Pennsylvania native is enjoying a career year. Through 40 games, he is averaging 19.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 48.9% from the floor and 41.5% from the three-point line.

While nothing is set in stone, it seems likely that the Nets will opt to keep Johnson around instead of pursue a trade for him this upcoming offseason.

Nets GM Gets Real About Potential Cameron Johnson Trade

Jordi Fernandez Is Also a Fan of Cameron Johnson

It seems that Marks is not the only one in the Nets organization who likes Johnson. Head coach Jordi Fernandez also likes having Johnson around. Fernandez called the forward “very reliable” on and off the court. Additionally, like Marks, Fernandez made it clear he values Johnson.

Jordi Fernandez on Cam Johnson remaining with the Nets through the trade deadline:

“He’s the type of person that you want around, that you want in your family… All that speculation came from the outside. We obviously value Cam Johnson, and we want him here.” pic.twitter.com/sv9GodCgyK

— Erik Slater (@erikslater_) February 8, 2025

“He’s a very reliable person, not just a player. All that speculation kind of came from the outside. We obviously value Cam Johnson, and we want him here. He’s been great. He’s gonna continue to be great. That’s the thing right now. He’s not the type of person that he’s gonna relax and be like, ‘Ok, I’m here.’ No, he’s gonna keep working, he’s gonna keep getting better and he’s gonna keep doing what’s best for the team.”

The Last Word

As it stands, the Nets are 20-35 and own the No. 12 seed in the East. While a playoff appearance is unlikely, it is technically possible. Brooklyn is only 1.5 games behind the No. 10 seed Chicago Bulls. If the Nets can make this jump, they will be a Play-In team. Currently, it is an uphill battle for them to get to that point. Regardless, it is something to monitor the rest of the way.

© Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images

Ahead of this year’s trade deadline, many expected the Brooklyn Nets to move on from Cameron Johnson.
