Their focus now shifts to more minor transactions, as they\u2019ve added a defensive-minded guard from their G League affiliate.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Lakers Add South Bay Standout on Two-Way Contract<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Jordan Goodwin, You are a Laker (Again)<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LA has brought in combo guard <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/goodwjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jordan Goodwin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on a two-way contract, the news broken by ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania Friday. He will take the spot of recently waived forward <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/armeltr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Armel Traore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Lakers previously signed Goodwin on an Exhibit 10 contract, but they released him prior to the start of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Los Angeles Lakers are signing guard Jordan Goodwin to a two-way NBA deal, sources tell ESPN. Goodwin has played for G League South Bay after going to training camp with the Lakers.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/1887952596582744203?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">February 7, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodwin went undrafted in 2021 after spending his collegiate career at <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/slubillikens.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/jordan-goodwin\/4310\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. Louis University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where he earned two All-Atlantic-10 First Team selections and two A-10 All-Defense nods. He also emerged as St. Louis\u2019 all-time leader in steals (225) and finished fourth in rebounds (998), fifth in assists (504) and 11th in scoring (1,460).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He spent his first two years in the league with the Washington Wizards, shuttling between them and their G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go. Goodwin was part of the three-team trade that landed the Suns <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bealbr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bradley Beal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. After a year in Phoenix, Goodwin was moved in another three-team deal last summer, going from Phoenix to Brooklyn before he was waived by the Nets. The Grizzlies picked up Goodwin in February, eventually adding him on a two-way contract. In 17 games (12 starts), Goodwin averaged 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game on .349\/.311\/.633 splits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Grizzlies released Goodwin this past summer before the Lakers signed and waived him in September. Goodwin has since grown with the South Bay Lakers, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/gleague\/players\/g\/goodwjo01d.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">averaging<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 14.6 points (.407\/.301\/.824 splits), 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals across 14 games.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What Goodwin Brings to LA<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodwin shores up the Lakers\u2019 guard depth in the wake of parting ways with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/chrisma02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Max Christie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He gives LA a decent scorer who impacts the game as a defender and rebounder. Goodwin\u2019s ability to stop the ball and maintain a high motor align perfectly with JJ Redick\u2019s vision for the team. <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jovanbuha\/status\/1842370365604900932\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> previously hoped the Lakers would become a top-ten defense in the league. The Lakers currently rank <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?dir=A&amp;sort=REB\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">26th in rebounds per game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (41.7) and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?dir=A&amp;sort=OREB\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">28th in offensive rebounds per game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (9.1). Their guards, in particular, are <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?PlayerPosition=G&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=REB\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nearly last in boards per game<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (10.9, 28th), with similar struggles on the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/teams\/traditional?PlayerPosition=G&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=OREB\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">offensive glass<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2.1 per game, 29th). Goodwin will not change those rankings overnight, but he can alleviate some of that pressure when he gets an opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After trades that saw the Lakers move on from two promising young players in Christie and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/knechda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dalton Knecht<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Goodwin gives the team another youthful option who will aid LA\u2019s guard depth with his hustle and defense.
