Coming off of what was a career year for the Canadian guard, he is putting up even better numbers this season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shai is <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4278073\/shai-gilgeous-alexander\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">averaging a clean 32.5 points per game<\/a> (career high) on 52.8 percent shooting. Not to mention he is one of the league&#8217;s best defenders, with two steals a game and 92 total on the season. The 2024-2025 season could finally be the one where he wins the MVP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gilgeous-Alexander is easily the Batman of this Thunder squad, but in the comics he needs his trusty Boy Wonder. Williams is that Boy Wonder, which is a name that suits him quite well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The question is not what can he do, but rather what can he not do? The third-year player out of Santa Clara is putting up 21.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists each contest. He is also one of the team&#8217;s best defenders. There might not be a single part of his game that he cannot do at a top tier level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Making his 1st <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NBAAllStar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#NBAAllStar<\/a> appearance&#8230; Jalen Williams of the <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/okcthunder?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@okcthunder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Drafted as the 12th pick in 2022 out of Santa Clara, <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jdubwttp?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@jdubwttp<\/a> is averaging 21.1 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 5.2 APG for the Thunder this season. <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AN96hWkXC2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/AN96hWkXC2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; #NBAAllStar (@NBAAllStar) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBAAllStar\/status\/1885113472549113942?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">January 30, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, his selection has caused some debate across the NBA world, as some fans think <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2025\/01\/30\/suns-star-snubbed-as-nba-all-star-reserve\/\" target=\"_self\">their players were snubbed.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the league&#8217;s best guards, such as <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/i\/irvinky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyrie Irving<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bookede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devin Booker<\/a>, were left off the All-Star list this season. Fans have gone out and said that they should have been selected over Williams. The problem with these statements, though, is the fact they play different positions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both Booker and Irving are backcourt players, whereas Jalen Williams is a frontcourt player. It is hard to compare the three Western Conference players when they do not play the same positions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Could History Repeat Itself?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is also a good chance that one of Williams and Gilgeous-Alexander could bring home the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bryanko01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kobe Bryant<\/a> All-Star Game MVP Trophy. The last Thunder player to do so was <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/westbru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Westbrook<\/a> in 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not saying that both players share the same fate, that fate being the team&#8217;s best player leaving for their rival. Instead with how the new format is for the festivities, there is a world where one of those two Thunder players could win the award.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jalen Williams should enjoy this honor while he can, since he is the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/teams\/OKC\/all_star.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sixth All-Star in franchise history<\/a>. He joins an elite list of <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Durant<\/a>, Westbrook, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/georgpa01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul George<\/a>, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/paulch01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Paul<\/a>, and teammate Gilgeous-Alexander.\u00a0All five of those past and present Thunder players are on pace, or are locks for the Hall of Fame.
