Why The Nets Should Avoid Trading For De\u2019Aaron Fox<\/h2>\n

On January 28th, ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania reported<\/a> that the Sacramento Kings are expected to open up trade talks regarding Fox. In his fourth year of a five-year $163 million contract, the 27-year-old is averaging 25.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He can become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.<\/p>\n

Amid a positive transition, the Kings are open to talks<\/a> regarding the All-Star. The Kings have an 11-5 record under their new head coach, Doug Christie<\/a>, who replaced Mike Brown after the team fired him. Under Brown, the team was 13-18.<\/p>\n

Accumulated Draft Capital<\/h3>\n

Currently the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference, the Nets have a 15-33 record. They ended their seven-game losing streak against the Hornets last night. The team is in rebuild mode with no chance of making the playoffs.<\/p>\n

The Nets have accumulated significant draft capital. They acquired first-round picks by trading James Harden<\/a>, Kevin Durant<\/a>, Kyrie Irving<\/a>, and Mikal Bridges<\/a> (September 2022 and June 2024). Why would they trade this year’s or future picks for Fox, knowing he will be playing on a rebuilding Nets team and likely leave in the 2026 free agency class?<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Fox addressed<\/a> the Kings’ right to have trade talks about him, saying, “That’s their decision to make. I can’t tell them not to listen to offers or I can’t tell them to listen to offers.”<\/p>\n
