Aside from <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a> being named an All-Star starter for the 21st consecutive year, one of the team\u2019s rookies will appear in the 2025 Rising Stars Game.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Lakers Rookie Named to Rising Stars Player Pool<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Dalton Knecht Earns Rising Stars Nod<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forward <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/knechda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dalton Knecht<\/a> will represent the LakeShow in the 2025 Rising Stars game, joining nine other first-year players in the rookie-sophomore matchup. He is the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/lakers\/news\/180216rshistory\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13th Laker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to participate in the contest, and the first to do so since <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/balllo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lonzo Ball<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuzmaky01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyle Kuzma<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked about participating in the Rising Stars game two weeks ago,<\/span> <a  href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/lakers-news-dalton-knecht-honest-answer-rising-stars-game\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knecht<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0replied: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNah I haven&#8217;t really thought about it but I&#8217;m pretty sure now I will.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 23-year-old was an arguable steal of the 2024 NBA Draft, going 17th overall to the Lakers after many considered him a lottery selection. He has had a roller-coaster rookie campaign for LA so far. Knecht emerged as a rotation player for JJ Redick and even started for a brief stretch in late November through early December. However, he has also shown signs of hitting the rookie wall, with his minutes and production fluctuating over the last month. In 44 games (12 starts), Knecht has averaged 9.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists while shooting 45% from the field, 35% from three and 80% from the free-throw line. His 9.1 PPG average is <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/stats\/players\/traditional?PlayerExperience=Rookie\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eighth among rookies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, barely trailing the likes of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/edeyza01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zach Edey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (9.6, 7th), <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/risacza01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zaccharie Risacher<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (10.6, 6th) and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sarral01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alex Sarr<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (11.5, 5th)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knecht earned a well-deserved Rising Stars nod as a rookie who positively contributes to a star-studded contender. His recent stretch may keep him out of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/12\/04\/nba-roy-race-dalton-knecht-rising\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRookie of the Year\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conversations, but his effort is recognizable and laudable no matter the situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Knecht\u2019s Role Amid New-Look Lakers<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the acquisition of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/finnedo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dorian Finney-Smith<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and return of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vandeja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jarred Vanderbilt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, many have questioned where Knecht fits into this new iteration of the purple and gold. The team has begun leaning into a defense-first identity, but that doesn\u2019t erase the offensive contributions one bit. Knecht appears to have adjusted nicely over the last few games, drilling over half of his three-point attempts prior to last night\u2019s contest against the Hornets. However, the recent shift allows for Knecht to tap into an area of improvement: stopping the ball. The rookie came into the draft known as an athletic sharpshooter, with scouting reports criticizing his defense as a key drawback. While <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/lakers-news-jj-redick-encouraged-by-dalton-knechts-defensive-improvement\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> praised Knecht\u2019s defensive improvements earlier this season, the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NBATV\/status\/1879023792674017723\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rookie\u2019s ability to string together stops<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be vital going forward.
