Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson<\/a> has not met expectations over his first two seasons. But, a breakout performance against the Nets might be a turning point for the Blazers’ future floor general. With an impending Anfernee Simons<\/a> trade, Scoot might finally become the focal point of the Portland rebuild.<\/p>\n

Scoot Proves He is the Blazers\u2019 Future With Breakout Game<\/h2>\n

The Portland Trail Blazers have been a puzzling team over the past two seasons. Moving on from Damian Lillard<\/a> meant they had to choose a new primary playmaker. Before they dealt Dame to Milwaukee, they selected Scoot Henderson as the third overall pick in the 2023 Draft. Most people thought he was the next superstar guard in Portland, but his performances have been lackluster.<\/p>\n

Simons remained as the Trail Blazers’ starting guard and a trade did not happen during the 2023-24 season. It was a bizarre decision from the Portland front office because it has played a role in Scoot’s slower development. Thankfully, Henderson is making the most of his opportunities to become the Blazers’ future star. One of those days was his most recent performance against the Brooklyn Nets.<\/p>\n

Scoot’s Performance Showed He Belongs in the Portland Rebuild<\/h3>\n

Henderson had a career-best performance against the Nets. He posted a stat line of 39 points, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Notably, Scoot’s 39 points are a career-high. Scoot’s efficiency stood out, shooting 72.2% from the field and 80% on 10 attempts from beyond the arc. His performance from three in particular was superb.\u00a0Since Scoot struggles with efficiency, this game was an encouraging sign. For his career<\/a>, he has only scored 13.3 points on 39.4% from the field and 33% from three. That is quite inefficient, but he plays better whenever he’s in the starting lineup.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old has not received the full-time starting role he deserves because Anfernee is still in the way. Most Blazers fans expect a Simons trade<\/a> to come sooner rather than later. There are still worries about the franchise’s decision for their long-term point guard. However, the 39-point game against the Nets alongside development in the Blazers’ future could be why they stick with Scoot.<\/p>\n
