He has been ramping up his on-court activities in preparation for his return. Over the past weeks, he participated in full-contact 5-on-5 scrimmages with the Clippers and their G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers. Leonard\u2019s return looks to finally be here, and Clippers fans can rejoice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Clippers All-Star Sets Eyes On Saturday Season Debut<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kawhi Leonard\u2019s Return Is Here<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Clippers upgraded Leonard\u2019s status to \u201cquestionable\u201d for Saturday\u2019s game, letting fans know that his return may finally be here. Leonard is expected to be on a minutes restriction as a precautionary measure. That makes sense, given that he has not played in an NBA game in eight months and has a long history of injuries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Clippers have performed well without Leonard this season. They are currently the seventh seed in a competitive Western Conference with a record of 19-15. James Harden<\/a> and Norman Powell<\/a> have led the Clippers without Leonard, and their success so far has been somewhat surprising. Harden has led the Clippers offense with his playmaking, while Powell has emerged as the team\u2019s leading scorer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leonard\u2019s career has been defined by his greatness when healthy, juxtaposed with constant injury issues. In the 2023-24 season, he appeared in 68 games, his highest total since 2016-17, averaging 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He also shot incredibly efficiently, shooting 52.5% from the field and 41.7% from three. Despite this, knee inflammation forced him to miss the final stretch of the regular season and most of the playoffs. That has been ann ending that has become quite common in the latter half of Leonard\u2019s career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leonard\u2019s injury history is well-documented. He missed the entire 2021-22 season due to a torn ACL and was sidelined during key playoff moments in other seasons. Over the past eight years, he has missed 290 regular-season games.<\/span><\/p>\n

If Kawhi\u2019s return does come Saturday, the matchup against the Hawks will be more than just another game. Even on a minutes restriction, Kawhi is often able to impact a game on both ends of the floor. Adding Leonard to the Clippers’ already successful system could be a game-changer in the Western Conference. Nobody was expecting the Clippers to be competing at the level they currently are.
