Bryce James hopes to bolster the Arizona recruiting class that currently sits at 50 in the 247sports.com rankings following a rough start to their 2024-25 basketball season.

The Player

Being the son of LeBron James comes with media publicity that few high school players will ever achieve. Videos of Bryce James began to surface when he was only a freshman in high school at Sierra Canyon because of his brother, Bronny. Since then, Bryce has grown to 6’4, 190 pounds.

Over the Summer, Bryce James played in EYBL Session 4, where he displayed his oft-praised shooting ability. He shot 15-27 over a five-game stretch in Kansas City. However, he still has much to prove as a full scorer before he can be a reliable option for a national title contender like Arizona. While the commitment provides a huge opportunity for James, there should be no expectation for him to be the prolific player LeBron was at his age.

The Questions

The biggest question revolves around his scoring ability, but they hoped that a senior season at Sierra Canyon would silence any critics. Unfortunately, James has yet to take the floor for Sierra Canyon for his senior season. Arizona still extended the offer which led to Bryce James’ college commitment. Is this some sort of business decision for somebody who has received attention since he was a baby? Could it be an undisclosed injury that the James family intentionally chose to keep quiet to avoid any unwanted attention? These questions will remain for as long as he sits on the bench, but there is no doubt that Arizona saw the immeasurable basketball talents that LeBron, Bronny, and now Bryce James all hold. His IQ will be a major asset if he ever is able to prove it.

The Last Word

It is unlikely that LeBron would stay in the NBA long enough to play with his younger son, too. However, there has been frequent speculation ever since LeBron and Bronny shared a historic moment in Lakers season opener that LeBron possibly hoped to play with both sons. For now, Bryce has chosen Arizona to build him up and improve his basketball ability. The familial talent is there, but Bryce James will have to prove his work ethic rivals his father’s if he hopes to play in the NBA.

For now, we will celebrate the monumental occasion for Bryce James and his family. After following him from a young age, many NBA fans are rooting for his success as he embarks on the next chapter of his career and life.

Bryce James, the son of NBA great LeBron James, has made his college commitment.
