He left the team that drafted him, the Denver Nuggets, rather unceremoniously. His tenure with the New York Knicks, the team the Nuggets traded him to, helped to grow his legend. Yet, it also led to his infamy.

It’s one thing to not lead a team like Denver to a championship. In fact, the Nuggets won their first NBA title just two years ago. Due to their ravenous fan base and playoff history, it’s another thing entirely to not lead New York to one. The Knicks haven’t won a ring since 1973 but they’ve had multiple NBA Finals appearances.

New York’s inability to do so while amassing as much talent as they did in his tenure is largely seen as an indictment of his ability. Even Stoudemire, his former teammate, has alluded to Anthony as a source of the Knicks’ failures.

“The ball just wasn’t moving” pic.twitter.com/BhKCPDwQWo

— The OGs Show (@theOGsShow) December 18, 2024

A Generational Career

While Anthony has no shortage of critics, he has plenty of fans. His jab step and jumper combo may not have been made for the NBA’s three-point craze.
