We are going to look at the implications of a potential Jordan Poole trade to the Nuggets and see if he is a legitimate option for them in the trade market.

Should This West Contender Trade For Jordan Poole?

Denver Nuggets Trade Rumors

Tony Jones and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that the Nuggets are actively searching the NBA trade market for an offensive upgrade. Poole is one of the players named as one of the players that the Nuggets have had interest in or have had preliminary trade talks about. The Nuggets are first targeting LaVine, who better fits what they are looking for, but Poole could be one of their backup options.

It is no surprise that the Nuggets are looking hard at upgrading this season. Nikola Jokic is once again having a historic season. He is nearly averaging a 30-point triple-double on the season (just off by 0.1 assists), and the Nuggets are incredible when he is on the floor. The problem is, when he is off the floor, they have one of the worst offenses ever. With limited options on the offensive end outside of Jokic, getting a player to keep their offense afloat while Jokic rests could be key in giving them a chance at contending for another championship.

Jordan Poole Stats Make a Poole Trade Intriguing

It is no surprise why Poole’s name has come up in the Nuggets trade rumors. He is having a solid season out in Washington on a team that isn’t looking to compete for anything more than a lottery pick this season. Also, Jordan Poole’s stats this season are some of the best of his career.

Poole is averaging 20.3 points and career highs in assists (5.1) and steals (1.7) per game. He has also improved his efficiency from his disappointing first season with the Wizards. Shooting almost 40% from three, Poole has an effective field goal percentage of 53.5%, solid for a high-volume scorer like himself. Poole could certainly be an offensive asset.

Would a Poole Trade Work for Denver?

There is no doubt that Poole could help a team if traded during the 2025 NBA trade deadline. The question is, is he a good fit with the Nuggets? Poole is probably too good (and expensive) to bring off the bench, so he would likely need to play alongside Jamal Murray in the starting lineup. Although offensively lethal, this would be a disaster defensively. Murray and Poole have similar skill sets, and if the Nuggets trade for Poole, it probably means that they believe Murray’s recent decline won’t be ending anytime soon.

Also, to get Poole and his large contract, the Nuggets would likely have to part with Michael Porter Jr. in the trade. Getting rid of Porter Jr., who is having his best season in years, would be too high of a price just to get a slightly more dynamic scorer in Poole. All in all, although Poole is an interesting fit next to Jokic, it seems more like a sideways move than one towards championship contention.

As the 2025 NBA trade deadline approaches, NBA trade rumors season has officially begun.
