In a way, this success (and his generous spending) has earned him a voice within the Warriors\u2019 management on player personnel. Now, with <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/10\/25\/houston-rockets-jimmy-butler\/\" target=\"_self\">Warriors trade rumors<\/a> picking up, Lacob\u2019s affinity for some of their past draft picks may be hurting the chances of a Warriors trade.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why Joe Lacob\u2019s Draft Crushes Can Hurt Warriors Trade Possibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Joe Loves His Warriors\u2019 Draft Picks<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lacob has never been quiet about his belief in some of the Warriors\u2019 draft picks during his tenure.\u00a0 <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/warriors-owner-joe-lacob-wants-to-be-clear-drafting-james-wiseman-wasnt-just-his-decision\/#:~:text=A%20few%20months%20after%20the,a%2Ddecade%20kind%20of%20guy.\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From calling<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wisemja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> James Wiseman<\/a> a \u201conce-in-a-decade\u201d guy to <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/joe-lacob-brandin-podziemski-all-star\/1757203\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">calling recent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pick <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/podzibr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandin Podziemski<\/a> a \u201cfuture All-Star,\u201d Lacob stays high on his guys&#8212;maybe to a fault. The Warriors probably kept Wiseman in the lineup (and on the team) much longer than they should have, in part to please Lacob. They ended up holding onto Wiseman way too long and not getting any value out of him once they decided to trade him. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>He Doesn\u2019t Want a Kuminga Trade<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuminjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan Kuminga<\/a> has always been one of Lacob&#8217;s favorites. He <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/joe-lacob-jonathan-kuminga-rookies\/1703297\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has said <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that Kuminga\u2019s ceiling is \u201cunlimited,\u201d and he probably really believes it. Even as the rest of the Warriors front office and coaching staff have gone through their ups and downs with Kuminga, Lacob hasn\u2019t faltered in his belief and support. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the Warriors recently pursued <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/markkla01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lauri Markkanen<\/a> in the offseason,<\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10129803-joe-lacob-warriors-dont-want-to-trade-podziemski-kuminga-amid-markkanen-rumors\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it was reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Lacob wasn\u2019t psyched about putting Podziemski or Kuminga in the trade. Although that may not have been the final reason the trade never happened, holding onto these young players with potential instead of going all-in on the latter years of Curry\u2019s career has annoyed some Warriors fans annoyed. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Warriors Trade Rumors<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the last few weeks, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/12\/11\/warriors-nets-trade-could-be-in-the-works\/\" target=\"_self\">Warriors trade rumors<\/a> have picked up. Of course, Kuminga is in the middle of a lot of them. He wasn\u2019t able to reach an extension with the Warriors this offseason. Although he has shown flashes that show his star potential, he hasn\u2019t been able to show the consistency that proves the Warriors should bet on him as the future of the franchise. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amidst Kuminga trade rumors, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/insider\/story\/_\/id\/42934439\/nba-trade-deadline-intel-warriors-heat-major-decisions\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESPN recently reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Lacob still has an \u201caffinity\u201d for the former seventh overall pick. Lacob\u2019s unwillingness to accept that the Kuminga, like Wiseman and Podziemski, are simply not as good as he thinks they are is starting to hurt the Warriors\u2019 chances at contending for a championship. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe if Lacob had not been so intent on trying to create \u201ctwo timelines\u201d by contending for championships while developing young draft picks, the Warriors might be in a better position to maximize the end of Curry\u2019s career.
