It was a complete change of policy for the young player. When the Lakers assigned him to the G League, they reportedly had a plan for Bronny to play only homes games, and not any away outings. After having his best career professional game at home last Saturday, the Lakers decided to give their young player more opportunities.

Lakers Change Bronny Policy and He Delivers a Statement Game

In the beginning of his G League career, Bronny was intentionally used exclusively in home games. The idea was that would give him more time to train and develop. The South Bay Lakers play their home games at the UCLA Health Training Center, which is the training complex of the Los Angeles Lakers. Bronny didn’t travel with the team for road games, with many experts and former players saying the Lakers’ treatment of Bronny has gone too far.

On Tuesday, ESPN reporter Shams Charania tweeted how the Lakers might be willing to let Bronny play in road games. He tweeted,

“Lakers’ Bronny James will play his first NBA G League South Bay road game on Thursday vs. Valley Suns, sources tell ESPN. James began the G League season shuttling between the Lakers and South Bay home games, but sides kept the door open the opportunity for road contests.”

Playing in his first road game, Bronny delivered a statement game, scoring a career high 30 points on 13-23 shooting to go along with three rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block. Following the game, the inteenet went crazy in support of Bronny.

Just a few days ago, Bronny had his previous career night, scoring 16 points on 6-15 shooting from the floor and delivering a signature block. Like his father, LeBron James, Bronny had an amazing chase-down block.

More Playing Time for Bronny

Bronny has appeared in seven NBA games for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging only 2.6 minutes per game, and less than a point per game. When the Lakers drafted Bronny with the 55th pick, they did it knowing that he is a developmental project. Some viewed it as nepotism, but the Lakers took a flier on a young man with potential.

They drafted him with the assumption that he would split time between the NBA and the G League. Initially, he played only home games for the South Bay Lakers. But after his showing against the San Diego Clippers, a game in which he had 16 points, it might be time to let the young man hoop. After all, fans love to see him.

The team has three more games remaining in December, all of them road games. Bronny might not play in all, since they are back-to-back games, but the more playing time he gets, the better.

In January, the South Bay Lakers have another road back-to-back, before coming home for a January 6 game against the Delaware Blue Coats. If the Lakers are willing to let Bronny James play in more road games, he will get even more opportunity to grow his game. Training can only get you so far. Unless you play in games, there is no way to fully learn and develop.

On Thursday night, Bronny James played in his first road game for the Lakers G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
