Truth be fair, when the first report of a Giannis trade came out, the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat were among his preferable places. There are plenty of questions around these rumors: do the Nets have enough assets to entice Milwaukee in a trade? Would Giannis love to play there? Can the Nets actually compete with Giannis on the roster and their supporting cast?

NBA Analyst Bill Simmons Links Giannis to the Nets Nets in Potential Trade

The latest sportsperson to suggest a Giannis Nets trade is Bill Simmons. While he is not an insider, Simmons is a long-time analyst; he has been around the league for way too long to know something is cooking. And where there is smoke, there is fire. Speaking with Sal Iacono aka Cousin Sal, another non-reporter NBA fan, Bill suggested that the Nets might make the most sense out of all the options on the market. He said,

“Nets are like pretty good, you know they don’t have, like they traded Bridges for all these picks they were supposed to try to tank, they got their pick back, they have just a shitload of picks they have Cam Thomas, who I was really impressed by who’s a very good scorer. They have like a bunch of good, not stars, but like enough of a team that the team makes sense when you watch it”.

As of November 11th, the Nets are in 7th position in the East, with a 4-7 record. While rarely a team like that, one that was supposed to tank and rebuild tries to trade for a star, you can never say never. Simmons continued,

“I think they can just go all in for Giannis people are gonna ask this week who’s the team that makes sense for Giannis. They are going be like, what about Miami? I actually think it’s Brooklyn I think Brooklyn’s going to be the team that trades for him because they can just overwhelm Milwaukee with all these picks they own”.

How Realistic is a Nets Giannis Trade?

It is worth noting that when the initial report about a Giannis trade came out, the Brooklyn Nets were among the favorites. Per CBS Sports, the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets were at the top of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s wishlist should he ask out from Milwaukee. The trade scenario would certainly involve Ben Simmons’ expiring contract, maybe a young player like Ziaire Williams, and then plenty of picks. The Nets hold Milwaukee’s pick in 2025, should it fall outside of the top four. The pick belongs to the Pelicans, and it is top-four protected, meaning if it falls outside of the top-four, the Nets get it.

They also have their own pick: Phoenix’s first, the Knicks’ first, and many of the Knicks’ future picks. As we go deeper into the season and closer to the trade deadline, plenty of teams will show their interest in Giannis. For now, the Bucks show no interest in disbanding the team, but things can look differently after 30 more games.

Can Giannis Compete in Brooklyn?

The Brooklyn Nets have a 4-7 record, but they do have several good players that would make sense around the Greek Freak. For starters, Cam Thomas is a great scorer, averaging 25 points per game. They also have Dennis Schroeder playing great at point guard and some wings like Cameron Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith. The problem with the Nets would be their bench, which would be thin after a Giannis trade. Overall, the Nets are also a good trade partner for the Bucks if the Bucks try to go all-in and trade their remaining picks for more help around Giannis and Damian Lillard.

It seems like every time the Milwaukee Bucks lose a game, a new team emerges as a trade candidate for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
