The Celtics dropped just their second game of the season Wednesday night to the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/11\/06\/warriors-gm-mike-dunleavy-jr-issues-no-trade-zone-for-guard\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Golden State Warriors.<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Even in the loss, Tatum received high praise from his running mate and fellow Celtics Champion,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holidjr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jrue Holiday,<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> following the game.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Celtics Champion Jrue Holiday Tributes All-Star Running Mate<\/h2>\n<h3>Jayson Tatum Called &#8216;Top 5 Player&#8217; by Olympic Teammate<\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He posted 32 points, shot 50% from three, and came up just six points shy of getting revenge on Warriors head coach\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kerrst01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Steve Kerr<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u2014or, that was how many in the NBA media outlined the picture leading up to the game at least. Whether deep down Tatum truly saw the matchup against the Warriors in the same light as some in the media space, who really knows? Missing\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownja02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jaylen Brown<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0for the evening&#8217;s showcase, Tatum played exceptionally well, assisted by\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/whitede01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Derrick White<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s 26 points. Unfortunately, neither Tatum&#8217;s nor White&#8217;s performances were enough to get past the Warriors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Even in the loss, Tatum&#8217;s game did not go unnoticed by Holiday. Postgame, the two-time champion called Tatum a &#8216;top five player&#8217; in the league.\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/clip\/UgkxSeyVEk0K26wMgN6fH8B-o56U6ltTvwtF?si=EPBubp3tBX3JUD5W\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Listen to what he had to say<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0when asked about Tatum&#8217;s impact this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;&#8230;just coming out, playing his game, being comfortable, being a top five player in the league like he is. So, he makes it look pretty easy, and then I think we just kind of follow suit, and he makes the game so much easier for everybody else because of his scoring ability and playmaking ability.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Holiday&#8217;s praise for this teammate only goes to show the respect and admiration Tatum garners within the Celtics locker room.\u00a0The way Tatum is playing in these first two weeks\u00a0makes it hard to put him outside the league&#8217;s best five.\u00a0It helps that the Celtics are 7-2 and, as a team, playing dominant basketball, much like last season. They\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask\/how-many-points-have-the-celtics-out-scored-opponents-by-this-season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">lead the league<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in points (1,101) and are outscoring their opponents by double digits in\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/schedule\/_\/name\/bos\/boston-celtics\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">all but one of their wins<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (124-118 vs Detroit Pistons).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>As It Stands, NBA Top 5 Group Is Crowded<\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Apart from Tatum, we have\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/edwaran01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Anthony Edwards<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jokicni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nikola Jokic<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gilgesh01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Shai Gilgeous-Alexander<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, and team record aside,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/antetgi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. No matter the team records, these five are playing top-level basketball and are recognized as the league&#8217;s top guys. Insert Tatum in that group wherever you wish, and remove one, but he deserves to be included.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tatum should be invested in shooting for\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/11\/07\/joel-embiid-season-debut-against-the-knicks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">league MVP<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0honors this year amid the Celtics&#8217; drive to repeat as champions. It feels like it&#8217;s his time. His work during the offseason on restructuring his three-point shot and shooting motion is paying dividends. More so, he looks like a different player, offensively\u2014a better one, if possible. Boston&#8217;s six-point loss to Golden State happened without Jaylen Brown. With Tatum&#8217;s 32 points and Brown&#8217;s presence, the Celtics may very well have won the game by more than six.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>With Brown&#8217;s return unknown at the moment, it&#8217;s Tatum&#8217;s team to carry until then.
