Now, there is a timeline of how the no. 55 pick and son of <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeBron James<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will develop in his rookie campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Lakers Make Key Decision on Bronny James<\/b><\/h2>\n<h3><b>Bronny Heading to the G League<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/42000480\/sources-bronny-james-start-lakers-g-league-split-trip\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the younger James will head to the G League, following LA\u2019s five-game road trip, which concludes in early November\u2014just in time for the G League\u2019s season opener. Charania and McMenamin wrote that James Jr. will \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">begin shuttling between the active roster and the franchise&#8217;s South Bay G League affiliate, sources told ESPN on Friday.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision was announced days after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/10\/23\/lebron-and-bronny\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">history was made<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son duo to ever appear in an NBA game\u2014and only the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/bronny-lebron-james-make-history-as-nbas-first-father-son-duo-but-theyre-not-alone-in-sports-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fifth in sports history<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking at the Lakers\u2019 schedule, Bronny\u2019s assignment will come after the team\u2019s road trip finale game against the Grizzlies and a week after a homecoming game of sorts against the Cleveland Cavaliers. His first opportunity to play for <a  href=\"https:\/\/southbay.gleague.nba.com\/schedule?month=11\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South Bay<\/a> will be on Nov. 9 against the Salt Lake City Stars at the Lakers&#8217; training facility in El Segundo.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Bronny, Redick and LeBron On the Same Page<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The move should come as no surprise for anyone following the journey of the 20-year-old rookie, who has become arguably the most popular second-round pick in this year\u2019s draft. Bronny was previously receptive toward the possibility of playing in the G League, embracing any opportunity for growth that comes his way. At media day, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/lakers-news-bronny-james-willing-to-learn-in-g-league-during-rookie-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he told ESPN Los Angeles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I know that I\u2019m not going to be thrown into the rotation immediately. So, I\u2019ve accepted that role and I\u2019m coming in and getting better every day and learning from the vets and people that are going to be receiving heavy minutes. I have no problem sitting back and learning these first couple years and then building up from there.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head coach JJ Redick\u2019s philosophy includes a heavy emphasis on player development. He noted how important South Bay will be in every young Laker\u2019s growth, calling the work between both ball clubs a <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/lakers-news-bronny-james-willing-to-learn-in-g-league-during-rookie-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cmodel of integration\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between the NBA and its developmental league.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We hired Zach Guthrie as our G League head coach. All we\u2019ve talked about in the interview process with him and since he\u2019s been on board is just creating synergy and integration. The G League is not a demotion by any stretch. We are in the same building. We should be the model for integration between the NBA team and the G League team. I look at Zach as an extension of my staff. I look at that team as an extension of our team. I would expect us to use the G League for very specific reasons.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LeBron has also been on board about the team\u2019s plans to develop Bronny with the South Bay Lakers, telling ESPN:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His job is to put the work in and get better and better, just like the rest of us. And we want to hold him accountable, and he&#8217;s going to hold us accountable. And if we all do that, we all get better, because we&#8217;re all one team. We&#8217;re a reflection of South Bay; South Bay is a reflection of us.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><b>Lakers Following a Successful Path<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Lakers electing to send Bronny down to the G League, they are hoping to follow a formula that has worked well for them in the past. Most of their young players thrived with South Bay before making a tangible impact in LA\u2019s rotation. The best example is ex-Lakers guard <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carusal01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alex Caruso<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who went from a two-way contract to a guaranteed roster spot over the course of the 2017-18 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lakers also made this decision after mixed reactions surrounding Bronny&#8217;s development, with some <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/shaquille-oneal-charles-barkley-bronny-162410149.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">encouraging them to send him to the G League<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while others <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.essentiallysports.com\/nba-active-basketball-news-los-angeles-lakers-advised-to-send-bronny-james-to-g-league-despite-former-nba-stars-kenyon-martin-major-warning-dan-patrick\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cautioned against it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
