Toronto Raptors legend Vince Carter<\/a> is joining forces with former Orlando Magic leader Tracy McGrady<\/a> and former Toronto FC star Jozy Altidore to buy a minority stake<\/a> in the NFL\u2019s Buffalo Bills, according to Sportico\u2019s Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams.<\/p>\n

\u201cFormer NBA stars Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, and former U.S. Soccer star Jozy Altidore, all of whom played in Toronto, are in talks to buy minority stakes in the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple people familiar with the negotiations who were granted anonymity because the details are private.<\/p>\n

The club, which is owned by the Pegula family, has been seeking investors. Earlier this year the Bills said they\u2019d hired Allen & Co. to help explore the sale of a non-control stake, which was reported to be around 25%. \u2026<\/p>\n

Nothing has been signed and it is possible that the investments do not happen, the sources said.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In their playing days, Carter and McGrady were teammates with the Raptors. However, they were both successful with multiple franchises. Carter was also a standout player with the New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets) and Dallas Mavericks. McGrady\u2019s best years may have been with the Magic, but he starred for the Houston Rockets as well.<\/p>\n

Carter and McGrady are both enshrined in<\/a> the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

Neither Carter nor McGrady have roots in the New York area. They were raised in Florida. Since retiring, Carter lives in Atlanta while McGrady resided in Houston up until at least 2023. Carter did play for the Nets, a franchise that\u2019s relocated to Brooklyn, for four-plus seasons.<\/p>\n

With that being said, this probably isn\u2019t a move that\u2019s primarily motivated by nostalgia. Toronto is<\/em> less than 60 miles away from Buffalo. It\u2019s entirely possible that Carter, McGrady, or Altidore have fond memories of their time in the city. Still, it\u2019s just a great business opportunity.<\/p>\n

A 25 percent stake in a team that\u2019s currently valued at $5.08 billion dollars could lead to a financial windfall for the second cousins and Altidore.<\/p>\n

If the trio are successful in their bid for a minority stakes in the Bills, they\u2019d join Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson<\/a> as the only former NBA players to be part of an NFL franchise\u2019s ownership group. Johnson has been one of the Washington Commanders\u2019 minority owners since 2023.<\/p>\n
