This year\u2019s results revealed every general manager\u2019s thoughts on a wide range of topics. The Los Angeles Lakers were widely featured on this year&#8217;s survey, whose rules are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GMs responded to 50 different questions about the best teams, players, coaches and offseason moves. General managers were not permitted to vote for their own team or personnel. Percentages are based on the pool of respondents to that particular question, rather than all 30 GMs.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span data-sheets-root=\"1\">How the Lakers Fared on the 2024 NBA GM Survey<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><b>LeBron James<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Best small forward:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Tied for 2nd with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranke01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kevin Durant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doncilu01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luka Doncic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 17%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Best leader:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Tied for 2nd with Jalen Brunson, 23%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Most versatile player:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 2nd, 20%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Best basketball IQ:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 2nd, 30%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeBron James<\/a> heads into a historic year 22, it\u2019s no surprise why James fared so highly among his peers. LeBron\u2019s skills and leadership are key drivers of his success throughout his career. They&#8217;re even more impressive as he turns 40 years old in a couple of months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James has seemingly played all five positions for the purple in gold. His versatility will be an area to monitor under head coach <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/redicjj01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">JJ Redick<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who clearly wants to maximize LA\u2019s superstar duo in his first year at the helm. One aspect of James\u2019s game Redick hopes to unlock is his <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10125902-lakers-jj-redick-reveals-plan-for-lebron-james-i-want-him-shooting-threes\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">perimeter shooting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He and I have joked about this. He shot over 40 percent from three this year. I want him shooting threes.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last season, LeBron attempted five threes per game in the regular season and made two of them. Ironically, his career-high in threes attempted came in 2021-22. He attempted eight per game\u2014as a center\u2014and made 36% of them. With James coming off of a career shooting year and being back to his natural small forward position, there is no doubt he is poised for another excellent year, even if his career comes closer to its twilight years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Anthony Davis<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Best power forward:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cAlso received votes\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Best defensive player:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Tied for 5th with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/antetgi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/joneshe01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Herb Jones<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 7%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Best interior defender:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 3rd, 10%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He may not have earned the individual hardware (&#8230;yet), but <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/davisan02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Davis<\/a> has earned the respect of rival GMs when it comes to his game and, especially, his defense. Davis has yet to bring home a Defensive Player of the Year award; however, he has earned five nods to the All-Defensive team in his career\u2014including <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/lakers\/news\/anthony-davis-named-to-2023-24-nba-all-defensive-first-team-052124\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a spot on the first team this year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. AD is coming off of a season where he played a career-high 76 games. He put up 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.2 steals per contest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redick has already envisioned Davis as being the Lakers\u2019 \u201chub\u201d on both ends of the floor, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/lakersnation.com\/anthony-davis-comfortable-with-offensive-role-under-new-lakers-coach-jj-redick\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a role that AD has said he\u2019s comfortable with playing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEvery team that I\u2019ve played on going back to New Orleans, I\u2019ve always caught the ball in the middle of the floor just kinda directing the offense and things like that so that\u2019ll be nothing new. As far as conversations, we had a couple. Obviously busy summer and things like that. But I\u2019m pretty sure our conversations will be a little bit more in-depth as the season has now started. We\u2019re able to be on the floor, kinda go over things. Talking, communicating about how we want things to work, what I like, what I don\u2019t like, what he likes, what he envisions and kinda build around that especially with the roster that we have. But I\u2019m very comfortable having the ball and playmaking from anywhere on the floor.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Davis showed glimpses of that comfortability under Redick in his preseason debut. He posted 17 points (7-10 FG, 1-3 3PT), eight rebounds, three assists and one steal against Phoenix on Sunday. Redick\u2019s commitment to maximizing Davis will work wonders for the 31-year-old big man.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Dalton Knecht<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Biggest steal of the draft:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Tied for 1st with <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carrica01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bub Carrington<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cartede02.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Devin Carter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/furphjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johnny Furphy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/shannte01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terrence Shannon Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/topicni01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nikola Topic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 10%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Which rookie will become the best player in five years:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cAlso received votes\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakers fans are still thrilled with the selection of wing <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/knechda01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dalton Knecht<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at #17 overall, and now, most GMs are starting to realize he was a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/06\/27\/2024-nba-draft-los-angeles-lakers-land-draft-day-steal-dalton-knecht\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">draft day steal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Knecht\u2019s sharpshooting and athleticism could bode well in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/09\/25\/jj-redick-lakers-rookie-dalton-knecht-could-earn-rotation-spot-next-season\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his case for rotation minutes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and his successful summer has begun to show in preseason action. Knecht tallied 16 points (7-13 FG, 2-7 3PT), three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in his preseason debut against <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dilliro01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rob Dillingham<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/basketball\/2024\/10\/08\/different-but-the-same-dalton-knecht-and-rob-dillingham\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Timberwolves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, it\u2019s clear his production will fluctuate in the games to come and once the regular season begins. Despite the tempered expectations, Knecht still figures to have a legitimate shot at contributing immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>JJ Redick<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>New\/relocated coach to have the biggest impact on his new team:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 6th, 3%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Redick even appeared on this survey despite his status as a novice head coach. The 15-year NBA vet joins established names as a leader who can make the biggest impact on his newest team. In his first few months on the job, Redick has shifted the Lakers\u2019 culture immensely, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/lakers\/news\/coach-redick-100724\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a sentiment echoed across the team in the past few weeks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For me to see how JJ is trying to bring the play calls and just level of IQ into each practice and each film session, to see how he&#8217;s prioritizing that,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d guard D\u2019Angelo Russell told Lakers beat writer Mike Trudell. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I&#8217;ve always been a guy that wants to prioritize high IQ, high verbiage, high film sessions \u2026 like, \u2018Let&#8217;s rise to that.\u2019 And he&#8217;s obviously doing that. It&#8217;s something to look forward to.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forward <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rui Hachimura<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> added:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think the good thing about it is he was just in the league so he knows exactly what is happening in this league right now. As for the unpredictable level of success, that comes with the territory of a mediocre finish last season coupled with a stagnant summer and a new head coach.
