Sun Take Game 1

Marina Mabrey’s standout performance was the Fever vs Sun Game 1 headline. Mabrey, coming off the bench, put up 27 points (a WNBA playoff record) while shooting 9-for-20 from the field and hitting 5-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Sun won the game 93-69. The Sun covered the -6.5 spread, and the game went under the projected score of 164.5.

Alyssa Thomas also put on a show with her fourth career postseason triple-double, recording 12 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Indiana’s Caitlin Clark struggled, managing 11 points on 4-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-13 from deep, though she contributed eight assists and limited her turnovers to just two. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 21 points, and Aliyah Boston added 17 points and 11 boards.

DeWanna Bonner chipped in 22 points for the Sun, whose defense kept the clamps on Indiana’s three-point shooting. Connecticut’s bench significantly outscored Indiana’s 41-15. Ty Harris left Game 1 with an ankle injury and is expected to miss the next game as well.

WNBA Betting History

The Indiana Fever vs Connecticut Sun is a matchup we’ve already seen five times this season. The Sun won the first three meetings, covering the spread in two of the three games. Indiana won their final matchup, 84-80, covering the Indiana +4 spread. Overall, the Sun are 4-1 straight up and 3-2 against the spread in their matchups with the Fever this year.

Before making your WNBA bets today, it is important to look at the WNBA betting trends. Clark and the Fever have been one of the bright stories of the WNBA this season, but they’ve been a tough bet over the last few games.

The Fever are 21-18-1 against the spread this season and 8-12 on the road. That being said, over their last eight games, the Fever have only covered the spread once. The Sun are 5-2 against the spread over their last seven. The hype around Clark and Indiana’s late-season playoff run likely is skewing the WNBA odds too much in the Fever’s favor.

WNBA Bets Today

After the Sun dominated Indiana in Game 1, the oddsmakers have not adjusted. The line for Game 2 remains Fever +6.5 on the road. The total has dropped slightly to 163.5. This line is a little surprising, seeing that the Sun won Game 1 by a margin of 24 points.

The Fever need to win to extend their season, but the Sun hope to shut down the hype before it gets too loud. The Sun seems like a better bet after Game 1, but in the WNBA playoffs, anything can happen.
