Dallas Mavericks: Three New Trade Ideas

The Dallas Mavericks’ roster, as it stands, is built to compete but can use a little tinkering (such as a trade) to further improve. Luka Doncic is still a superstar, which will always keep the Mavericks competitive. The team also added Christian Wood, a true offensive weaponJalen Brunson, who starred in the playoffs, is headed to New York, however. There are still holes that can be fixed in Dallas.

Dallas Mavericks: New Trade Ideas

Getting Involved in a Blockbuster

Dallas Mavericks receive Seth Curry from Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Nets receive Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, James Wiseman, and picks from Golden State and Dwight Powell from Dallas.

Golden State Warriors receive Kevin Durant from Brooklyn.

It may be crazy to envision the Warriors bringing Durant back, especially since they proved they can win a title without his help. With that being said, the Warriors want to win as many titles as possible before their window closes. Durant brings that capability. It will certainly come at a cost, but one worth making for that kind of talent.

Brooklyn walks away from the failed Durant journey with a solid haul. Wiggins is now an All-Star, but also on an expiring deal. Poole is ready to make waves as a starting guard. Wiseman, although often injured, has limitless potential at the center position. Powell, also on an expiring deal, shores up the big man depth.

Dallas walks away with Curry, who’s a former two-time Maverick. He’s one of the most lethal shooters in the game and already showed an ability to thrive alongside Doncic. He helps fill the scoring void left by Brunson.

Building Depth

Dallas Mavericks receive Jordan Clarkson and Rudy Gay.

Utah Jazz receive Davis Bertans, Josh Green, and a first and second round pick.

The Jazz may be heading into a rebuild after making a recent blockbuster trade. They collected several assets in that move and could be in search of more. Dallas, in a win-now situation, can take advantage of that.

Clarkson is a fantastic scoring guard to add to the mix in Dallas. He has a long history as a dynamic bench player, which will be exactly what the Mavericks are in search for. There’s no doubt he’d thrive in that offense. Gay is also a veteran who will provide wing depth.

The Bertans contract isn’t ideal, but Dallas attaches assets here for Utah to bring it in. Bertans can still contribute, however. Green is still an enticing young player as he was a first-round pick just two years ago. More minutes in Utah can help him grow. The picks are ultimately what gets this deal done.

Another Wing

Dallas Mavericks receive Josh Richardson.

San Antonio Spurs receive Dwight Powell and a second-round pick.

Richardson is a former Maverick, and his first stint didn’t go as well as planned. After bringing Wood in, however, the Mavericks don’t necessarily have a need for Powell. Trading him away, along with a future second-round pick, to bring Richardson back is a gamble worth making. Richardson averaged 10 points per game last season and will bring decent scoring along with perimeter defense.

San Antonio, on the other hand, is primed to rebuild after making a recent major trade. They’ll take Powell’s expiring deal along with a pick.
