How the NBA Suspension Has Affected the Southeast Division

Every team that has been invited to participate in the NBA’s resumption of play has been impacted by the season’s suspension. Today we take a closer look at the teams in the Southeast Division.

How the Southeast Division has been Affected by the NBA Suspension

Miami Heat

Erik Spoelstra’s squad definitely benefits from the season’s suspension, as the Miami Heat were sputtering prior to the shutdown. After surprising people at the beginning of the year, Miami limped to a 7-9 record the month before the pause. The team will no doubt use the time off to rediscover their identity as they try and hold on to the fourth seed in the East.

Washington Wizards

As the lowest-seeded team invited to Orlando, the Washington Wizards definitely have their work cut out for them. Unfortunately, their path to the postseason became even tougher as Davis Bertans has decided to opt-out of playing. The Latvian forward is coming off his most productive season and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Bertans is unwilling to risk injury. His decision could impact potential offers he might receive in the off-season.

As you can see, most teams have benefitted from the season’s suspension as many players have recovered from injuries. Unfortunately, though, a few have been negatively impacted as well. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how each squad adjusts to the resumption of play in Orlando as this unprecedented season continues.

Orlando Magic

The pause couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Orlando Magic, as they were 8-4 in the 12 games before the season’s suspension. Orlando was starting to find their groove after struggling to find consistency for the majority of the year. Moreover, the team even had a chance to leapfrog the Brooklyn Nets into the seventh spot. Steve Clifford is certainly hoping that his squad can continue their stellar play once the season resumes.
