Kyrie Irving Injured Indefinitely

Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving has re-injured his right shoulder and is unlikely to play for the Brooklyn Nets this season. Marc Stein revealed that this same injury that Irving suffered earlier this season has come back again.

In his limited 20 games for the Nets, he is averaging 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. This year was his best season to date, and it is a shame that he got injured at this point in his career.

There is also some other news regarding Irving’s injury that Nets fans may not want to hear. Stein has more details:

“Irving’s injury is best described as a deterioration in the shoulder. When he discussed his return in late December, Irving acknowledged that he took a cortisone shot at the time in hopes of avoiding surgery. The reality is that he has been playing with on and off discomfort.”

However, this may not be the worst time to get an injury in a Nets’ fan point of view. The Brooklyn Nets have played well even without Irving in the line-up. Also, everyone knows that the Nets will try to compete for a Championship next year when Kevin Durant comes back.

Brooklyn Nets Point of View

The Nets are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference. They are two games above the eighth-place Orlando Magic and five games above the ninth-place Washington Wizards. They have also performed well without Irving. Other players have stepped up. This includes players like Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert, and Jarrett Allen who have played well for the Nets.

Saying that, the Nets will miss Irving’s presence if the Nets make the playoffs this year. The top six teams in the Eastern Conference have notably better records compared to the rest of the Eastern Conference. This includes the defending NBA champions, the Toronto Raptors. The Brooklyn Nets would face the Toronto Raptors if the playoffs started today.

Lastly, in the long term, this injury maybe just a small setback for the Nets. The Nets will get Kevin Durant back next season and if Irving is healthy next year, they are worthy championship contenders.

The Brooklyn Nets will start on the road after the NBA All-Star break. They will play against the Philadelphia 76ers on February 20th, and the Charlotte Hornets on February 22nd. They will then host the Orlando Magic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The game will take place on February 24th.
