Jonatan has been called up as the 27th man for the Blue Jays doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Sunday. Clase has been performing well at Triple-A Buffalo, sporting a .343 batting average along with 18 stolen bases. Widely known for his speed, he stole a career-high 55 bases in 2022.

Clase should be a great addition to the Blue Jays roster and will be in left field against the Yankees. Clase has also drawn 13 walks at Triple-A. Burr started the season on the shelf with right shoulder inflammation. He is not slated to return until late May. Burr was solid last season with the Blue Jays recording a career-high 47 strikeouts.

ROSTER MOVES:

🔹 OF Jonatan Clase has been appointed as the 27th man for today’s doubleheader

🔹 RHP Ryan Burr transferred to 60-day IL pic.twitter.com/x4fPjtXUFe

— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) April 27, 2025

Blue Jays Call Up Jonatan Clase, Transfer Burr to 60-Day IL

It comes as no surprise that the switch-hitter has been called up, as it’s been highly anticipated over the last week. Considering Daulton Varsho will be returning to the lineup any day, it was unclear whether Clase’s call-up would be delayed. But the 22-year-old Dominican outfielder’s debut this season has arrived. With the quality performance he has put up in Buffalo, including a .452 OBP, it will be interesting to see what he does in the majors. Last season with the Blue Jays, he recorded two extra-base hits, a home run, and two RBI across 20 at-bats.

The Blue Jays have made a wise choice with calling up Clase as they need to play their hot hands. He will also get the opportunity to work on his defensive skills in the outfield. It is not clear how long Clase will remain on the MLB roster but if he puts up a good performance this will put pressure on the Blue Jays to make some key roster decisions, something they’ve had to do since spring. The Blue Jays have the option to keep Clase and could send another player down.

Photo Credit: © Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images

The Toronto Blue Jays have called up Jonatan Clase and have transferred reliever Ryan Burr to the 60-day injured list.
