This season saw Gonzalez’s numbers decline, especially his power numbers. The last couple of seasons, he hit 40 homers in 2015 and 25 during the 2016 season. Gonzalez also had a drastic drop in the number of runs he drove in this season. This year marked the first time since 2014 (he only played 70 games) that he didn’t drive in 70 or more runs. He has driven in 70 or more runs since the 2010 season, outside of his 2014 campaign and this season.

Gonzalez’s speed has decreased recently. From the 2009-2013 season, he would have 15 or more stolen bases. Since the 2014 season, Gonzalez has had a maximum of three stolen bases in a season, accomplishing that twice (during the 2014 and 2017 seasons).

Gonzalez has spent 10 seasons in the majors. Nine of those seasons are with the Colorado Rockies, and one season with the Oakland Athletics. The left-handed ballplayer has hit .288/.346/.511 through 1,200 career games. Gonzalez has hit 267 doubles, 36 triples, 215 home runs, has driven in 711 runs, has swiped 117 bases, has drawn a walk 393 times, and has struck out 1,075 times in his career.

Gonzalez made his debut on May 30, 2008, with the Oakland Athletics. He was traded to Colorado with Huston Street and Greg Smith for Matt Holliday during November in 2008.

Gonzalez is a three-time All-Star, making the team in 2012,2013, and 2016. He has won the Gold Glove Award three times, winning it in 2010, 2012, and 2013. The 6’1 lefty has also won the Silver Slugger award twice, earning the honor during the 2010 and 2015 seasons. Gonzalez lastly was the National League Batting Champion for the 2010 season.

Gonzalez finished third in the voting for NL MVP during the 2010 season behind Albert Pujols and winner, Joey Votto.

Last but not least, Gonzalez hit for the cycle on July 31, 2010, and hit a walk-off homer on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 9th inning. He became the first player since Dwight Evans of the Boston Red Sox in 1984 to hit a walk-off home run to complete the cycle.
